I am making the switch to Mobil 1 in my 00 QC. What type of filter should I use? Are there many types? I plan on changing the oil every 7500 miles (10000km for us canadians). Does the filter need to be changed at a sooner interval? Is that too long to go on the Mobil 1? I want to ensure I remain within the warranties. I don't mind changing it sooner. in the past I have always changed the oil in all vehicles every 5000km 3000miles. I have a v6 S10 blazer with over 400000km (250000km) and it stil runs like new (almost).

Mobil-1 has an excellent oil filter as well. Personal choice is WIX.

I have a friend who has a 93 Dak V8. he runs mobil 1 10-30 and uses a Mopar oil filter. he changes it every 3000. i have talked to several people and most either change it at 3000 or 6000. i would probably change it between 5-6. i don't trust oil over 6. i don't care what STP says about their oil extender but oil does breakdown. i use Texaco 10-30 with a Mopar oil filter and mine gets changed 2500-3000 and it comes out black. another excellant oil is Royal Purple. It is a little more expensive but is very good. I have heard of people that every 3000 change the filter and top it off. they completely change their oil around 10000. i dunno how good this is. I think it all comes down to opinion. and opinions are like armpits. eveyone has 'em and both stink.

I change the oil about every 3000-4000 using mobil1 and I change the filter every time and use a fram filter. I do a lot of driving and average about 26000m a yr so I tend to change more often. And I like to keep the truck in a good running condition as I can so I don't like to go long with out a change.

Been using Mobil-1 for a long time. If you think it's like water...try using the Quaker-State oil...after 2000 miles, the oil pressure was flucuating and the stuff came out just like water...when it was cold.
If you use Fram filters...be careful. They're not as well built as some would think on the inside...cardboard and glue. They're not like the WIX or Mobil-1 filters which use a wire mesh to hold the filtration material. The anti-drainback valve is also very thin on the Fram filters and bleed oil back into the system...they're supposed to hold it.

I still think the best value for an oil filter is the K&N oil filter. They filter down to 10 microns in size. Compare that to the cheaper filters which only get down to 30-40 microns in size. About $10. I've used them and been really pleased. And I change about every 7,000 miles with Castrol Syntec.

I used to use Fram filters as well but after 1989, they either bulged out on me (couldn't handle the oil pressure on the old Camaro) or the anti-drainback valves didn't work. I had the same problem with the Dak and the Fram filters...the anti-drainback valves weren't working properly and the truck would have a nasty lifter tick in the mornings. (Doesn't do that with either the Mobil-1 or WIX filters.)
K&N is an excellent filter, but...from what I heard...isn't made by K&N. (But that's no reason not to use them.)
It's your vehicle...your call. :)

dude,
the K & N filters works fine with me too. you gotta use them. try and match them with the others.... they work even better i think. when i change my oil i notice the oil not as loose as with the other the filters. jus my 2 cents.
thanks and MAHALO, Scotty
