i just bought a 91 dakota 4 banger and am going to swap in my 360 hp. i have several 8 3/4 rears and housing around and would like some info on replacing the 8 1/4 rear with the stronger unit. i will be using the truck for drags so im not into failure at the line

A friend of mine is in the process of swapping a 8 3/4
in a 95 Dak. It's out of a E body (cuda) he also has a
built 360 and with a stock rebuild it should be plenty
strong enough. I've seen many low 12 sec. big block Mopars
with slicks run these with zero problems.

hey Randy,
1998 dakota r/t and durangos have a 9 1/4 rear end under them with a very similar width as your truck. You may want to check out some salvage yards . The only major difference would be the shock perches. If you can keep pinion bearings in them they are not to bad. If you are interested in something stronger I have a dana 60 with 4.10 / posi out of a 2000 3/4 dodge I would make you a deal on.
