I own a 98 Dakota Sport 4x with a 5.2. When I was looking, I really didn't find any differences other than the appearance. The SLT will have chrome bumpers. The Sport is more color matched. But for every Sport I looked at, I found and SLT with the same exact equipment. In fact, my final decision was between an SLT that had item for item, the same equipment as my sport. The only difference was that the SLT had driftwood trim, and mine had the sport graphics.
