Subject: drooling over Dakotas

I dont currently have a Dakota yet primarily because I'm still in college and beer is taking all of my "truck money" away. I currently drive a CRX and it's just a little too small for me. I've been looking at Dodge trucks for a while and I've come to the conclusion that I dont know much about them. I was up at a dealer last night just to see what they got and they have a peachy keen '98 SLT up there with the 5.2 in it and all the right toys on the dash. First question is what are the differences between the SLT and the Sport be sides the badges and the trim? And any othet information on these trucks you guys wanna give will be greatly appreciated. I own a 98 Dakota Sport 4x with a 5.2. When I was looking, I really didn't find any differences other than the appearance. The SLT will have chrome bumpers. The Sport is more color matched. But for every Sport I looked at, I found and SLT with the same exact equipment. In fact, my final decision was between an SLT that had item for item, the same equipment as my sport. The only difference was that the SLT had driftwood trim, and mine had the sport graphics.

I have a 00 SLT 4x4 with the V8 4.7. I couldn't tell you any diffs other than looks because I didn't really look into the sport much. But I love the engine and if your looking for a little better gas go with the 4.7 if you can. If you can pick up the 98 SLT for the right price I would say go for it. But check the price Because maybe with all the deals out now you can get a new one for a little more. My dak cost me 19k and its has a lot of options including all the inside toys and the rollbar/bed rail bar combo with 4 off road lights mounted on top, bed liner and other things. Got it down from 26K

Tom the only diff is the SLT has crome trimmings on the out side...much like the cars and Trucks of the 60s and 70s did.It is what ever trips your trigger.The SLT+ triped my trigger.Go to a dealer..tell them you want a sales brochure.

I have only 1 problem with the Dakotas. Stay away from the 3.9L V6, because you may be thinking about that 5.2L that has more power, like I do with mine. No other problems, the V6 is excellent, but if you want a little power without spending a whole lot of money, stick with the V8. You'll be happy with a V8 Dakota, even a stock one. You came to an excellent website with a lot of good guys here who know their Dakotas inside and out.
