I have a 2000 4X2 with the 4.7L engine. I would like to make a few relatively easy modifications to improve MPG and maybe get some more power.
Some questions:
Will the drop-in K&N give anywhere near the performance of the Gen II system? The Gen II looks like it would pretty easy to install, so if there's a big difference, I'll go that route.
What can I do to improve the exhaust WITHOUT making my truck too loud? Don't want to offend my neighbors (or my own family!).
I think I'll also change to Autolite 3923 plugs. Do I also need to change the wires? What would I change to?
These sound to me like the easiest and fastest mods I could make. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I also have a 2000 4.7 but a quad cab. I have the same questions. K&N doesn't list a generation 2 for the 2000 4.7 does it?

They're supposed to have their "Twister" system for the 4.7L. The Intense Perforance "Z-Tube" is working for quite a few others with the 4.7L and the QuickD Throttle Body is a nice enhancement as well.
Bruce (Flometrics) is finishing up his Billet Throttle body and the initial results are very impressive.
Little tid-bit of info I found out...the 4.7L have two different TB's on them...65mm and 68mm. The 68mm is the hot one.

Bernd whats up with two different TBs...how do you tell them apart and was the 68mm a late modal change?

Not quite sure why Dodge did that...yet. It's a recent find from two aftermarket TB designers and it's been confirmed. Look at the throttle blades for the number.

Yes...the butterfly / throttle blade.
I'm not sure yet on what the differences are...but i'll talk to the TB designers for some more info. I'm sure it has something to do with that...maybe.

Check out the information at:
http://www.flometrics.com/TBhomepage.html
Bruce is in the BETA stages of the Billet TB for the 4.7L but the Billet 5.2/5.9L TB is done and working beautifully.

Hope I'm not insulting anyone's intelligence here or wasting time by pointing out the obvious, but in response to the original post: The 4.7 doesn't have plug wires to change because each cylinder has it's own coil.

Just had a thought on the two different throttle bodies...maybe it is the difference between the CA and the federal versions of the 4.7. I haven't looked at mine yet (a 2000 CA version) but will get around to it within the next couple of weeks. My understanding is that there are a few differences between CA and fed versions on the 2000 4.7, one being the catalytic converters...my CA version has 3 cats (one just downstream of each exhaust manifold, and a third just after the Y-pipe, and its my understanding (correct me if I'm wrong here) that the 2000 federal 4.7's only have the one after the Y-pipe. If Dodge did that to the CA 4.7's, maybe they threw on the smaller TB as well.
By the way, as I understand it, all 2001 4.7's are now equipped like the 2000 CA 4.7's. i.e. 3 cats. Hence the change in the 2001 power rating on all 2001 4.7's to 230 (CA versions were always rated at 230).
Make sense?

Dan that makes even more sense to me... than my idea.I ask some time ago why my 2000 4.7 had 5 more HP than the 2001.I would bet there is more than 5 HP difference in the 2001.

I agree with Bob as well...see what you can find out on your 4.7L.
Thanks for the help Dan.

Throttle Body Part Numbers:
2000 4.7L - 53013241AC (Same for Auto & Manual) 2001 4.7L - 53013163AA (Same for Auto & Manual)
There's no difference from CA to FED on the TB's though.
Still checking some more into this a little bit deeper for another source as well.
