Many of you know there's no lift availible for the 2000+ dakotas due to rack and pinion steering etc, etc...as for tuff country they claim they have made a lift, yet the proportioning valve standsin the way of releasing it. SO if this is true, then a lift can be made? I'm not sure. I talked to some technicians at skyjacker and they said they're working on a lift (4-6") that they hope to release next year. Now, all i wanna know is if a lift can be made for a truck with rack and pinion steering (especially the dakota) and if anyone can confirm that some manufacturer has a good chance of ever releasing one. Bernd...any suggestions??

You can do what I did to my Dakota: You can crank the torsion bars, if your 2000 model has them, and that should get you 2". I also added a 1" block into the rear springs to make up the difference in the rear. Then this was followed by a 2" body lift which allows 31x10.5" tires.
When you total all this up, I increased my clearance in the front by 4" and 5" in the rear! Not too bad for not spending big cash on a "lift kit". Make sure you get proper alignment done AFTER all these lift mods....Works great!

When you cranked your torsion bars does it not screw up your ride and handling?

From experience, Torsion Bars shouldnt be cranked up. They will screw not only your ride but it will put alot of stress on your front end. Long term your front end will be trash. My front end ran 850$ to fix and i had a friend help. I had a 97 4X with 3" body and torsion cranked with 33's. Igot rid of it, front end was shit. They are making spindles for the Sakota soon, That is the best way to lift a truck.
