Anyone have any suggestions on easy bolt on items or things i can do besides going easy on the pedal to get some better mileage out of a 03 5.9L quadcab?

This subject gets pretty much beaten to death, for obvious reasons. Do a search and you'll find a couple of hours worth of reading material.

In general, anything that improves efficiency of the engine will improve mileage. Moveing the air in and out easily is the key. HOWEVER, and this is important, you very quickly hit the point of diminished returns. For example, a complete exhaust system with headers may improve mileage by 1-2 mpg. But that will cost some big bux. How many miles do you have to drive before you break even?

OTOH, some items have additional benifits. A tannou cover has been shown to increase mileage. And they are pretty handy. So that one works out well. Synthetic fluids last longer and protect the engine better than dino based products. Otherwise, just drive the truck and don't worry too much about it. Dodge V8's run forever, but have a voracious appetite.

more mods, equals less strain, equals higher MPG, unless you keep your foot into it,.... but yeah, the subjects been beaten to death... the ONE true "Mod" would be to trade in more a smaller engine/lighter vehicle, which is a stupid mod.
My 5.9 R/T reg cab is getting about 13-17 MPG, if I'm lucky... I just try not to drive much!

I've got a 2000 5.9 quadcab 4x4 and at first I winced when seeing the mileage I was getting (13-15) but now it's no big deal. If I had wanted good gas mileage I'd be in a Honda. I want some power! Just enjoy your truck and drive like you got some sense. Have you noticed how many people FLOOR it off the red light? easing into it really makes a difference for both mileage and wear and tear on your vehicle.

Wow, I feel cheated. I only realized a solid 1MPG gain when I put my toneau cover on my 4.7/nv3500/qc. I'm not complaining, but 3MPG is fantastic!

Didn't notice any improvement from adding my hard toneau. I get the same 17 to 18 on the hwy on or off.
I know it's hard on the starter but I find if you turn the motor off at long lights (I seem to get caught at every light in town) it makes a real difference. Sometimes you can be sitting there for like 3 mins. Just a thought, I'm sure I've incured the wrath of the 'keep it running' crowd...

ive got a 2003 quad cab 5.9 with a procharger. and due to the air being forced into the intake i got 23 mpg or better on my trip from philly to sacramento (3200 miles) of course in town it doesnt do so hot, but if you are an avid traveler it will definately pay for itself quick enough. plus the extra power is nice! there are other mods too but im gonna chock it up to the procharger.

I just bought a dodge Dakota 4x4 clubcab its a v8 magnum
sport with dual exhaust. have not had the chance to drive
it it was wrecked in the front a bit. but we have gotten
it.together to drive it out of the gaage. its a major step up
from my ford ranger edg 2wd reg cab. i was mostly wanting
to see what kind of highway miles it gets because i take all
back roads to work and run about55-60 there and back it is
a 14 mile trip a day

for horsepower and gas mileage.my
mileage went up to 20 mpg at 60 mph!i had
to upgrade my K&N filter. wouldn't breathe
right. so i bought one of those large round aftermarket filters they sell at autozone.
After the new filter , oh yea baby!
I could hear the engine breathe and the power
was nice too!I had good luck with a pfc chip
for 69. dollars. used on chyr. sbring!
