hmm...why hate a honda? it's like being a citrus farmer and hating apples. i don't get it.

I'm as irritated as the next guy when I see someone trying to add 2000lbs of downforce to a car that can't break 110mph, but I've (unfortunately) see people do that to an intrepid too. a very sorry sight, but I don't hate intrepids. heck, there's a guy around here with an 88 beretta with 3 different types of rims, a wing off of a boeing 747, and the thing is lowered.
some people enjoy looking stupid; I say let bygones be bygones.

There is a distinct difference between rice and the import tuners. Most of the tuner guys hate the dumb look ricers that cloud the image of import tuning and performance. Take the pre-'02 Civic Si's running around. Most purists keep it original color, lower it for performance purposes, and build the engines up well enough to run with just about anything out there. Then you've got what I call the PBC's (Pep Boy Cowboys), who make the car look like ass by putting all kinds of wings and lights...whatever, all over the car destroying the clean look of what was once a performance automobile. Check out some of their own sites and you'll see the split in the groups. PBC's vs. Performance Purists. Kinda interesting, and I thought that I'd share it with you all.

I frequent the houston-imports board, and must say, I see the term "ricer" and "rice" used more than on many domestic forums! Many of the guys on there HATE import expo and shows like that, because they are "pure rice, for points" and such.
There's also a lot of domestic guys on there. Me, a guy with a cobra, a guy with an old 5.0 and a Ranger, and then suddenly one day half of West Side Mustangs registered so we got TONS of stangs there, everyone gets along wonderfuly tho, its quite beautiful :)

I hate the ricers but I'm actually thinking of selling my bigblock Mopar and build a civic. My buddy built a 1.8 with all stock honda stuff and its in a 92 or 93 civic and turned a 13.4 @ 102mph couple weeks ago and still gets like 35+mpg. It turns over 8000rpm. Runs friggin 1.80 60 foots. This engine has the stock 1.6 heads, cams,injectors, and TB still.

Its a good buddy of mine. He built the engine. He only subs out the machine work. $4000cnd, you need a 1.8 shortblock and a 1.6 Vtec topend. We are surprised too but this is real. He built it for a relative of his from a mag article. My buddy is a Mopar guy but is a mechanic so he rebuilds all kinds. If you ever get to see a 1.8 Acura engine in pieces its amazing how bullet proof the bottom end is. He put 10.8-1 comp factory pistons in it. It went 14.0 with the stock 1.6 computer then 13.4 with it flashed. My 400 Volare runs 13.1's@ 104mph with 1.85 60 foots. I was there when the engine was bolted together cause I was putting my latest 400 together at his shop. I will be at the drags next weekend to witnees this car in action and to run my 2003 Dak. I'm a Mopar head but I can see the advantages of the Vtec and daily driver status.If you know how the Vtec works then you can understand how it can be very fast, very streetable and get very good gas mileage at the same time. The second set of cam lobes don't come on till somewhere around 5000rpm. The only drawback in the building of it is the block machining on the 4 banger is the same as an 8. Aftermarket pistons are double the price but the factory ones are dirt cheap.

That's not unrealistic at all, there's early 90's civic hatches here in houston running teg LS motors boosted that turn VERY impressive numbers. Some serious sleepers too..

A friend of mine just dumped an Integra engine in his Honda Civic hatch dx. I think it's like a 90 or 91, but it's a pretty good sleeper. Asian kids next door stare him down all day and always want to race for money and stuff. Damn idiots.

I'm not hatnig against the honda guys. When im not driving my dakota, im with someone who has a honda... they are extremely common cars. I have respect for a lot of them too, I'll admit it, all the cars I ride with my friends in will smoke my truck. Ive got a couple of buddies that have their hatches' turboed, and a couple with LS engines in them. My buddy mike just bought a 94 accord 4-door and dropped a type R motor in it, true type R, from japan. Yea it was expensive, but that car is the sleeper form hell. As well as a buddy i know that has an 87 crx, one headlight busted clean off, no front bumper (rear-ended someone), and a busted up windshield. I've never seen the thing lose a race, the body couldnt even sell, but the engine is worth about 10 g's. But i still say id rather be in an american car in a wreck, and thats what keeps me from owning an import.

I think all those guys out there who trash the import tuner scene are idiots. Why? Because they are too busy trying to move a 10 ton hunk of primer grey trash down the track they dont even realize what fast cars are all about. Its about a good time. A motor head is a motor head. And if a car is built great, pulls hard, and kicks ass on race day without breaking down then it has my respect whether it says "Focus" on the ass end or HEMI on the fender. I get together on weekends with a group of 60 cars or so and hang out. Later we find a place to race and see who the show offs with rims and neons are and who the real enthusiasts are. Its sad to see that Japan and Germany beats American car builders at their own game. But if you ask me... the Japs, the Krauts, and the import tuners brought the muscle car days back...just a little differently.

Yeah I agree totally about the idiots who put the stickers all over their cars, the shopping cart spoiler, and the kazoo, (can't forget the kazoo tailpipe!), and the lights in the windshield wiper squirters. Those cars I kick their ass all the time.
It's the ones who actually put the money into the engine that I would fear.
The other day I saw a Honda Civic at Checker Auto and I was starting to laugh because I assumed he would be another idiot. Then I saw the NOS (Nitrous Oxide Systems by HOLLEY) bolted to his engine. This guy had NO NOS stickers at all on his car! Obviously this guy also loves to blow people away and keep them wondering how he did it! Most people with the NOS decal all the way accross their windshield have no clue what it is. And most people forget it's a brand name, and it doesn't stand for Nitrous Oxide. N20 does.
Anyway, while we're on the topic I'd like to tell you that here in Phoenix we have tons of bulls**t cars around here. I find many of them with the logos from one car brand on another car brand, such as Si-R logos on a Nissan or the Dodge R/T logo's on their CHEVY's!!!!!

By the way. One of our cars is a Chrysler with the d*mn Mitsubishi 2.5 Liter V6. I can't find any mods for this thing. Does anyone know of any places to look? I was thinking of a centrifugal supercharger to make a sleeper out of it. But it's allready got 9.4 : 1 compression stock so don't know what kind of serious boost it could take. ANd oh yeah, I drive through the mountains and these cars would take curves alot faster than any Civic could. The guys I know who have Civics tell me the ass end is too easy to come un glued and pass the front in if you take curves too fast!

Be careful pushing it around those mountain curves. Just about any front wheel drive car will swap ends (oversteer) at high speed. It really surprises the hell out of someone who has not experienced it before, as you'd expect a front-driver to understeer, even at the limit of adhesion. You can recover from oversteer a lot easier in a rear wheel drive vehicle, then you can in a front-driver!

Hey payson.....your ride sounds like butt, and in that one video your "ultimate performance vehicle with lots of HP and no stickers got beat by a jacked up old truck. You slam an awful lot of rides when you have no idea what they're running under the hood. some of your points are right on, but as far as peoples taste in their vehicles, to each his own....i hate what some people do to their dodges, but i don't dedicate a site to slamming them. get your head out of your ass and grow up, and that grease isn't gravy, so stop eating it.

The Chrysler we have does kinda sound funky I admit. And I don't remember having any of it's sounds on my site. But that's what I get for installing a FLOWMASTER to the rear outlet of a car. But hey, now I know what it sounds like.
My old stange sounded damn good. Unless you've never heard a small block idleing with a big camshaft with lots of lift and duration that can do over 7000 rpms. You surely will not be doing that with your Dakota any time soon. Let's see how much money you put into your Dakota to get it to do 160 MPH!
Anyway. I have many many pages on the site so I don't remember everything I have on there. A jacked up truck? You must be confused. I was making a point. The cars with the stickers all over usually don't have jack in their engines. But I did race a F150 with my STOCK Nissan (Not the stange) and I couldn't take him. I think he actually had some perfomance mods. This was with the same stock Nissan I usually whoop those other rice rockets with. Obvioulsy some people can be under estimated and before you know it all you see is their tail lights. I don't know where many of you are from. But here in Phoenix, those guys copy the looks from the cars in "The fast and the furious" and think that crap is real! Many didn't know it takes more than stickers to get performance!
As for the front wheel drive cars cornering high speeds badly. I've experienced that first hand! I lived in the mountains for 20 years before moving to Phoenix. The first time I went through a corner too fast in a front wheel drive scared the crap out of me! I used to take my rear wheel drives to the point of squeeling the tires. You get no such warning with a front wheel drive. It just goes into a skid, and a skid with no "feel" like a rear wheel drive!
But as for Dodge as many of you should know, they have the wheels out wider than most front wheel drive. Also, look under most front wheel drives. They have Macpherson struts up front and NO upper control arm. Our '98 Chrysler has aluminum upper control arms and the strut just acts mostly like a shock like they should be.
And if I want to make fun of some stupid performace stickerized economy cars, I will. So there! It's just for fun. As if alot of you don't bash on FORD's, etc!

a few things, Dakotas are trucks, mine isa 4x4 with the old 125 hp v-6, i got as much lift as i can without doing a body lift or suspension lift that is not available for my dakota
and little civics think they are hot sh!t cuz they got a wing and lights and sh!t all riced out, and they beat me by half a car length, if i explain to them and they realize im not sposed to be fast and then realize how slow they actualy are and i get STFU I WON
I respect the tuners.
my friend has a 91 Tallon that will do about 13.5, he has it lowereed a little bit, wider rims, (NOT BIG ASSED RICER RIMS) and he wastes all these ricers, he looks bone stock. you woul dnot expect him to run what he does, it rocks

If you don't actually HAVE the performance, DON'T install all the performance stickers and the such on your car/truck! Because that makes you a POSER!
I have one car that is Japanese (made in America by Americans!), and one Chrysler (hey, these are half Japanese!) and I like to race people at the lights myself. But I would never put fake performance stickers on my cars. And if I beat the shopping cart, Kazoo powered ricer, (which I do win more than I lose), it's even better because it makes them look so stupid!
I respect the guy with the fast SLEEPER ride and laugh at all these ricers with the shopping cart spoilers and lighted up megaphone zakoo mufflers, etc. With all those rediculous mods, their car is in WORSE shape after the mods than before!
Check this out, I installed a FLOWMASTER onto my woman's Chrysler. I wanted it to have a deeper tone, but it is alot louder than I wanted. Now she is almost embaressed because she doesn't want to be confused with a kazoo ricer!
And yesterday my friend wanted us to fix this girls Honda Civic for her. She bought the thinig used. It was lowered, and modified. Now she needs a motor mount and for some reason the previous owner used some wierd stuff because what her car has doesn't match any of the stock mounts and she is stuck with a bumpy, and NOISY ride. And it was DE-VALUED by the idiot who altered it. Only another moron would buy one of these cars from someone!

I have a little opinion about the "only buy American" people out there. Good point by Paysonbadboy. Even our American stuff out there is part Japanese. It would be great to only buy American cars but most of them do suck...lets admit. But if we are going to jump on the bandwagon on buying American...take a look around your house before you knock the Japanese car owner. You may own an American car but Im sure your TV, microwave, stereo, computer, and appliances are foreign. Unfortunately that is nearly impossible to avoid.
On a lighter note...what are some good supercharger or turbo kits out there for the 5.2 liter?

Sleepers kick ass. My sleeper is a '99 Ford Contour SE Sport with the 2.5L V6 and the MTX-75 5-Spd. Looks like every late 90's rental car until some nit wit wants to make a pass. Then it's nothing but smoking tires and an engine and exhaust roar that sounds like an F1 car. Too bad I'm getting rid of it, but my replacement "sleeper" is an '03 VW Jetta GLS 1.8T. Can you say turbo upgrade?

And no, that's not one of those one of a kind cars that are horribly faster than the rest, there's a couple more sleeper's in houston that aren't running QUITE as fast, but are in mid-high 12's and have been going for thousands and thousands of miles.
Not really tryin to single you out, just tryin to make sure we all understand that sure we can all say "go to this site, there's some videos I think you might like" but there is ALWAYS someone faster, and import or not, you can't deny that they beat you if they are in front of you when you cross the pretty line.

saw it. If i had a $10,000 civic with 300 horses,
they would never look twice. girls like SPORTS
cars. and yes it IS fast. I also own a 91 dakota
with a 318 v8. it has wooped alot of ricers and
