When doing only the fluid and filter change you are only getting at best a third of the old fluid out of the tranny. That's why it's best to have a power flush. I personally have a power flush and then drop the pan and change the filter. May people say I'm nuts for going to the trouble of doing the filter change but I like to know my filter is clean and all the fluid is clean and new. I personally change my fluid at 25,000 miles. This is a good interval unless you do alot of haulling or racing then every 20,000 miles is good. This is sooner than the recomended I know but I've never had tranny problems out of a new tranny. WARNING, if you have let your tranny go unserviced for more than 40,000 miles DO NOT POWER FLUSH THE TRANNY. The new fluid will be more dammaging than the old fluid. You can change the filter and run it for 500 to 1000 miles and change it again. This should do a good job.

I always tryed to get my customers to service they're trnnys every 2 years or 24,000 miles. Do the filters change too. chrysler filters are a fiber type, and will plug up. My wifes cherokee has a drain plug in the pan and i drop the fluid every 10 to 12,000 and change the filter every other time. fluid always smells clean and have had no problems. Jeep has 65k on it and i got it with 17. I've never seen a tranny break from too much maintinance. old sayin goes....pay me now, or pay me later! Bill

Why shouldn't you do a power flush if your fluid has over 40,000 miles on it? I have about that right now and was about to have that done. If I just drop the pan, then what filter should I use and what/how many qts. of tranny fluid should I use?
