There are new crate Hemis on ebay right now. The
"buy now" feature is $13,995, but they claim that
they are worth $18,995.

Are the new crate Hemis on E-bay the 5.7's or the old style based on the big bolck? I bet they are the old 426 style. I doubt they have replacemsnt crate motors out for trucks that aren't even on the road yet. The viper motor does cost a lot more to make, and the crate version is much more complete then any other small block crate like the 360 versions. Thye viper motor is pretty much as pulled out of a viper, feul injectionk, headers, crank triggered ignition and a wiring harness even I think. The other crates need things like the headers, feul delivery, some wiring and ignition parts which can really start to add up above the cost of a $4000 360. Plus you got to add a lot better parts and two extra cylinders and I can see why they end up being over $10,000. Depending on how complete a 5.7 hemi crate ends up being will determine the cost. I'd say less then the viper by far but more then a 360 crate set up for a carb.

Hersbird: there are some of the older style hemi crate motors on ebay now, but the new 528, 610 hp motor I was looking at last week is gone. It looks like no one wanted to cough up the $13,900 for it.

$18,500 hahaha ya right who's smokin what? I've seen them all over the net for $14,500 even in Mopar performance catalogs.

btw...Lesley I'm not throwing this sarcastic remark at you but rather that e-bay add. Just wanted to clarify that.

$13,900 is probably the cheapest I've seen, the price must be coming down.
So you buy a motor for $14,000, then a car for ehhh $10-15,000 now you still need a trans that'll handle the power
then a rear end, not to mention all the accessories, and man hours.

That's a lot of money, and half as much again up here in Canada. You could buy a house for as much as it would cost you to finish that project.

The new 425 HP 402 stroker crate would be even easier to make work, is under $5000 and makes more power then a 5.7 hemi, but some folks don't want that sleeper look, and would rather have that 'wow' factor.

Well I actually got it out of a Mopar accersories magazine but here is a mopar site with alot of crate info.

https://www.jimsautoparts.com/engineassy.htm

Minus the Viper crate motor on that site it is in the catalog I have.

on the 402 425 hp why does it say "Not for use with air conditioning"?

unless it's a drag car I'd like to have a/c especially if I only drive it in the summer.

Well once DC gets off their A$$ and starts makeing them price should not be that high. I would imagine that within a year of production there should be some floating around in junk yards. By the third year there will be enough in junk yards to satify demand. I am going to guess that a fully dressed one would sell for around $1500-$3500 from a salvage yard.
