I have a 2000 Dakota with 4.7 l engine.

I am getting a P0551 error code which "Power steering Pressure sensor CKT Range / Performance.

Anybody else getting this error code ?

Any suggestions how to fix the problem ?

Have checked the fluid level, and do not see any leaks.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Steve

Steve,

My 2000 4.7 liter got a similar code, but it has been a while but I think it was PS line pressure high.

Something to check, on the DS next to the battery you will see a connector with 2 wires on the power steering pump discharge line. Pop the connector off and check for fluid inside. These switches are known to go bad and leak fluid into the wiring harness, causing problems

Jerry,

Yes, I pulled the connector apart last night, and there is fluid in it as you suggest.

Can you get a new pressure sensor at an auto parts store, or do I have to go to a Dodge dealer ?

Regards

Steve

Steve,

I replaced mine back in 2004 I think, and got the part from the Dodge dealer for about 25.00

I used an open end wrench to remove the old switch, put some teflon tape on the new switch threads and installed.

Easy job actually. Good luck
