I posted this on another listing and am looking forward to the AMZOIL response:

Ok, ok, I've seen all the arguments about which is better etc. you can say what ever you want about a product and people suck it up like a dry sponge. I am presently using AMZOIL 5W-30 in my DAK and am using Mobile 1 Extended in my Caravan. The best way to compare them both is to use them, or find someone that is comparing them. I stumbled on this website (http://neptune.spacebears.com/cars/stories/oil-life.html) which is presently using people to do the comparisons. My biggest worry about AMZOIL in the study is with it starting out as a 5W-30 and becoming 15W-40 by the 15k miles. In the studies the two oils work pretty close, but you have to read the articles and associated articles to get the whole point. I'm waiting impatiently to see what other tests show. In the mean time, I'm almost ready to change to M-1, because of the cost difference.

and when it "amzoil" thickens to 15/40
do you really want to be running it?
notice in the article that was their main worry

the amzoil guy will give you nothing but another
5 page essay of crap
i've been running M1 for yrs and will continue to do so and when i pulled the engine apart to do the timing chain and tensioner
i was pretty impressed as to how clean the internal parts were even with high milage

That test is outdated and total B.S.

Okay, First let me state that I am a certified mechanic.

I've been watching this thread for a few days for 2 reasons: a) because my wifes car has the same engine that was used in the Neptune Amsoil / Mobil1 test; and b) because I watched that test a long time ago (it's from 2002).

YEP, the test is outdated and all oil companies have reformulated their oils since 2002.

Let me tell you something. IMHO, there is something really wrong with that test.

#1. They used the wrong Amsoil in that engine. I've been using Amsoil Series 2000 0w-30 (vs them using the 5w-30) in my wifes car (same engine), testing it regularly, and have never seen an increse in viscosity.

#2. TBN is very important. It is not stressed in the report. As for TBN, Amsoil is top dog, with a TBN of at least 12 on their top oils. TBN is the Total Base Number. The higher the base, the more acid the oil can manage.

#3. What they do not conclude, and what they do conclude.

The TBN in the M1 seems to be pretty low compared to Amsoil, AND they do say that the Amsoil was better over all as far as insolubles found = better over all oil.

Amsoil reformulated its 5w-30 oils since that test and I have not seen any reports of viscosity increases since that date (and I see a lot of reports). I have had customers oils (Amsoil 5w-30) tested since that study was completed and the oils did not show a viscosity increase.

IMHO, Amsoil is the better over all oil.

To the person who posted as "miracle oil".

I don't think you see the amsoil advertizer on this site pushing anything. He is very helpful and on top of that pays to support this site so you can post for free.

So why you posting BS against him and in his face?

Go buy a Furd or Cheby.

miracle oil,

Using a better synthetic is more than odometer readings. The engine is better protected and sounds and runs like new. Actually better than new. Plus I get much better gas mileage because there is less friction. Less engine friction means more power gets to the wheels as well.

With Amsoil:

Better protection
Runs like new
Sounds like new
Better gas mileage
More power

This is my result switching to Amsoil.
I have been using Amsoil for 4 yrs.

Chuck

Redline and RoyalPurple pay to be on those shows.
Maybe that's why they cost more than Amsoil and M1.

Let us explain to you how the real world works.

1. TV, newspapers, magazines, radio, etc, are in business for one thing - to make money. They are not in existance to educate you, or help you in life. They don't care about you. You're the sucker in the crowd at the traveling medicine show.

If you see it on a TV show, or in a magazine, that means the company paid for it to be there. I've even seen those TV shows extolling the virtues of the Tornado. Although you can learn a thing or two by watching those shows and reading those magazines, you can also be duped (as you have been).

2. Major manufacturers buy their products by low bid. Just because Ford put it in the crank case at the factory doesn't mean it's the best. It means that company turned in the lowest bid that year. Do you really think Firestone made the absolute best tire for the Exploder?

Don't let the media tow you around by your nose ring. Use your brain.
