What is the knocking coming from under my valve covers? What is the 3.9 known for as far as problems in this area?

Is it something that happens constantly, or is it just when warm? Under load? What's the mileage and year of your engine?

i've got that too it comes and goes. i've been told it's a timing chain if you stick your head underneath the front bumper you should hear it there. the 3.9 uses the same timing chain as a 318 which is like .05 bigger. there is a tensioner you can put in. there's instructions on how to do it on this websites homepage. i've also heard bad things about the oil pumps in the 3.9 but i don't know how much truth to that there is

It is a 93 and it has almost 185,000 on it. The timing chain has been replaced with a new tensioner. I know it is coming from under the valve covers. You can always here it at idle, oil pressure is great. Got the high flow mopar oil pump on there and Mobil 1 Synthetic. I believe that it is a rocker or pushrod, maybe a lifter.

Yeah, I'd suspect a weak or partially collapsed lifter first.
