Subject: got me a 40 flowmaster, install tips?
IP: Logged

Message:
I just picked up my flowmaster 40 part# F13 42541.
Its going on my 98 dak 3.9 single in/out 2.5

The 40 looks to be shorter than the stock muff which is just clamped on there.

So, should I just clamp the inlet to the stock pipe and use a extension pipe with two clamps and
the old tail pipe? Any tips?

If your trying to make both exit out behind the rear tires, then that would probably work, or you could replace both the rear pipes and make them straight out the back..

Welding the pipes is usually better than clamps, because it prevents things from getting loose and rattling. But clamping will work...

It was hard getting the old muffle off without thrashing the inlet and tailpipe. The clamps had to be cut because of rust.We had to use a air chisel to peel back the ends of the old muff. Then beat it with a hammer til it came off. The old muffle was cracked and filled up with rust and dirt, it was very heavy.

I had to get three 2.5 clamps and a piece of extension pipe. The flowmaster was about 4 inches
shorter. The extension pipe was cut a litle over four inches one end slid in the outlet the other into the tail pipe with not much showing just enough to piece it together. the front clamped onto a hanger and the other two clamps held the
outlet to extension then the third clamp held the extension pipe to the tail pipe. nice and tight.

Then I started the truck. The sound was awesome.
A nice low rumble, amlost half as loud as my 69 pontiac lemans 350 at start up. I'd say its almost
or just as loud as most V8 stangs with out the cam rumble. I'm happy with the sound it does not sound like a ricer at all. My truck is running much better but the old stock muffle was cracked and junk. Go with the 40.

a lot of people have recommended that those flowmasters should be welded on. I don't see why i couldn't just do what you did. How hard was it? what year is your truck?
Thanks
