My friends 1993 dakota 3.9 2wd auto isnt getting spark. Hes had almost everything replaced, but still no spark. The mechanic thinks its the computer. But i remember reading about a wire that can get corroded in the wiring harness, which would cause the truck not to get spark. Anyone have any idea? or does anyone have a computer they want to get rid of. thanks.

Check the harness under the fuse box, next to the battery. There is a splice in there that corrodes...also take a close look at the plug for the computer.
What parts has he replaced?

If the crankshaft position sensor is bad it will not send a signal to the computer which the computer needs to send spark. Lots of people replace $300 computers instead of a $60 CPS because it's a B*tch to get at!

Hes replaced the coil and the crank position sensor. the truck has over 300k but it always ran fine, it just stopped getting spark. What does the splice power? and what am i looking for at the plug, thanks.

Thank You. I too had a "spark problem". 1993, 2WD, 3.9, 3 speed auto with overdrive. Only use it occasionally. 2 weeks ago it started. Yesterday, no spark. It was as indicated a corroded connection in harness under fuse box.

The splice is located almost directly underneath the relay/fuse box on left side (drivers side) of inside fender well. Carefully cut the wrapping. Three red wires from the front join one red wire from rear. In my truck they lay on the upper side of the bundle. The bundle is a little over an inch in diameter. I soldered in a splice and taped each splice plus retaped the area I had cut the wrapping from. If you have any difficulty in following this guide, please advise and I can e-mail a photo.

It can very well be the computer! Happened to my 95! Everything else was replaced and finally the computer and it was the fix.

I have an '88 with spark problems.
Would that "splice under the fuse box problem" apply to it as well?

I have a simular problem aswell. I have a 95 dak 3.9 liter v6 and yesterday after work i came home, ran great. Got up this mornign, will not start. No spark at all. I checked the spark right out of the coil, nothing, i checked the spark out of the spark plug wires, no spark. I replaced the coil. Nothing, i wasn't sure if there was a fail same for low fuel or not, so i unplugged the battery. Reconnected, still nothing. Why would it have spark on sec, and no the next. If you could e,mail me a picture of the splice, it would be much appreciated.
