I recently posted here but trying again
I rebuilt 3.9 on a 95 dakota 4x4. After putting engine back in
and plugging it in, I can't get it to run. It turns but won't
start. I replaced the distributer and all sensors. Have fuel
and spark aligned cyl 1 at tdc on the distributor. I checked
the slice under the fuse box and have juice. When I turn the
key the tach goes crazy like 0- 5000 rpms and back. Any
suggestions?

Also no codes on the dash, I don't know if there are stored
codes. I have compression. What else do I need?

i'm sort of having the same problem. i posted a few days back, no response yet.
but, it sounds to me like you might have pinched a wire somewhere putting the rebuilt engine in. maybe you've given yourself a dead short somewhere. i've been studying wiring diagrams and the vehicle speed sensor (on the transmission) has several wires going to it, one goes to the crank sensor, the pick up in the distributor, and the computer. another one goes to the t.p.s., the map sensor, the engine collant sensor, the air temp sensor, and the computer.
so, it's possible you've pinched one of those wires somewhere.
you and i are in a similar situation, neither of our trucks run and there is no apparent reason why they don't.
if you check your wires and DO NOT have one pinched off, well, then we're REALLY in the same situation. mine is a 94 3.9v6 auto trans 2wd.
good luck.
keep in touch.

After the snow I got I checked for pinched wires. With the
tachometer acting the way it is, it sounds like that might be
the likely cause but I can't find anything. I paid extra close
attention to the wires related to the cps but saw no possible
pinches. Im getting a blizzard tonight so won't be touching it
tomorrow but if you have any ideas on what I should check
then feel free to write them. Thanks
