I purchased a 2002 dakota sxt a couple of months ago and realized the other day that there is something wrong with the 4wd. It works fine while I am driving straight, but when I go slow and try and turn the front wheels seem to lock or get stuck and then the truck stalls. Any clue? When I bought it I tested the 4wd out but did not turn at slow speeds. The tires are slightly bigger than stock, could they be rubbing.

If you're doing that on hard pavment it could be normal....it shouldn't kill the engine though. When you turn on dry pavment there is no give between the front and rear wheels, they need to have some slip to keep from locking up. That's why full time 4x4 has a differental between the front and rear drive line. You don't have full time 4x4 only drive in 4 wheel in soft road conditions.

You must read the manual on the Dakota 4 wheel drive. It is not intended to be used on dry pavement - at least not when turing the wheels.
