Message: the trip started out great 1 to 2 foot swells.
in 3 and a half hours we were 100 miles off the jersey shore at the canyons.by 1:30 am the winds picked up the cloulds came in and the lightning and thunder followed.by 2:30 am (the prime time feeding for tuna)there was 4 to 5 foot swells.
with a nice chum slick and 2 boxes of bait we were set up for some hooking up with charlie tuna.by now the 3 other boats that were by us were packing up and calling it a night.so a half hour later we were following there lead and our chances of tuna were gone!with the wind still picking up the swells grew and rain had started.
as we are an hour into the ride back one of the fuel filters clogged up and one motor would only
reach 1500 rpm.he had an extra filter but with the swells it was allmost imposible to switch.about 2 hours go by and the swells had to be 8 to 10 feet, while im standing inside the boat the waves were up over my head!needless to say we made it back in 11 hours.dont ever trust the weather man the storm was due to come in the next day at 4:00 pm they were off by 16 hours!
if you want to see what i saw off the back of that boat go rent the perfect storm!
your friend steve

Message: Sounds like you had a BLAST!! Amusment parks dont have rides that fun. Our boat got caught in a storm like that out fishing in the FL. Keys a year ago. Then when we went on our 3 day cruise to te Bahamas we got caught in a bad storm one night. Could hardly eat dinner the boat was rocking and leaning so bad. (VERY VERY small boat. Only a couple hundred people on it. We won the tickets and didnt know it was as small as it was. Would never had intentionally bought tickets on this boat.)

Message: durtydog,
Wow, what a trip. Sorry to hear the weather wasn't better. Thats how it goes sometimes way out there by the canyon.
When I was out on a sea bass trip way out there, a large wave came along and anyone laying on a bench were quickly thrown into the air and onto the floor. OUCH!
Was fishing in Maine one time on Moosehead Lake in a 14' boat. A storm was coming in and the wind picked up tremendously. Talk about a ride, We were being thrown into the air on every wave, tackle boxes were flying around, and I immediately became religious. God help me!
Better luck next time,
Bob
