I really like Yahoo's Geocities web building page and directions. If you want, you just go to yahoo.com or geocities.com and you can find get started.

I used to use Geocities ... but after a while when your site starts taking a few hits Geocities shuts down your site temporarily for "exceeding bandwidth transfer limits".
I've since switched to Tripod. They offer more server space and you can opt for a banner ad rather than those pesky popups that come with Geocities.

I have been recieving notices from GeoCities about how they need to shut down certain areas of my site because they say I have exceeded the allotted MB space. I have so many people who are linked to my space now I cannot change it until I get a real URL like this site. It hasnt been too bad, just once in a while people cant get into the site.

I use Tripod and have been using it for a few years now, like it. I like it and like the building tools. I started another site there too, under one sign-in name and photo gallery. I'm just going to post pics from the past and car shows and museums.

It's not free, but at $7.77 a month it might as well be. POWWEB. They can register your domain name for you and if you pay for a year (10 months) they through in 2 months for free. You get 250 megs of space and 250 POP 3 e-mail accounts and several gig of transfer. It's worth every penny.

You need nothing to start. Everything you need is there. The pop up adds suck but it is free and your address simple. It is a good place to start if you know nothing, then upgrade if you like or change to Yahoo and pay a little for a site with your own name.

DON'T USE THE BOXMAIL ONE!!! I just got finished trying to make a site there when I realized that anyone online can look under the contact info button and see your address, phone number, etc. The guy who made it screwed up there.

Hey, that's what building a free site is about! Log back in and change the contact page. Some people want their info posted, most (like me) don't. You can put anything you want on the contact page. Don't give up, I've built many a free web sites, and the knowledge gained there will help........ Just make the crap up...... duh

I don't know the best place, but it is really easy to get a website at myeweb.net. Just go to the build a free website icon on the left hand side. Then, click on the green build freewebsite towards top. After you type in your domain name, there will be a list of prices. Click on free at the bottom and click X on the popup. Then, go from there.

Well if you have an isp, don't they give you free space? There is no such thing as a good place to create a website that costs nothing. You will always have some problem, down-time, pop ups or any kind of ad, bandwidth limitations etc. and you don't have a leg to stand on to complain since you aren't paying anything. I pay very little and have a great host I've used for years www.superuser.net
