maby its the way some people drive.
i have a 98 reg cab with 61000 miles on the factory brakes and rotors.
if you drive like my wife,50 mph up to a stop sign and slam on the brakes, yes they will warp.
hell my 2000 blazer my wife drives has had the brake fluid flushed 2 times because she cooks it.

Isabel smashed my Dakota Quad Cab 4x4. I guess I'm glad, cause insurance made me a good settlement, and the rotor/brake system weakness really bothered me. But I had to write after reading those last two posts. If your surgeon only killed half his patients, but you survived, would you still recommend him to your friends? Many of the rotors Dodge has sold in it's Dakota line are inferior.

I HAVE A 2004 DODGE DAKOTA QUAD CAB 2 WHEEL DRIVE AND IT HAS ABOUT 15000 MILES ON IT AND THE ROTORS ARE WARPED. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND HE SAID THAT THEY ARE ONLY COVERED FOR THE FIRST 12000 MILES OR ONE YEAR. I ASKED WHAT WOULD CAUSE THIS AND HE SAID OVER TIGHTING OF THE LUG NUTS. THEN I TOLD HIM THAT HIS DEALERSHIP WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS PUT ANY TOOLS TO THE LUG NUTS HE SAID IT MUST OF BEEN WATER. I DONT KNOW BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE I GOT FED A WHOLE LOT OF BS. HE WANTED TO CHARGE ME 97.50 EACH TO HAVE THEM TURNED. I SPOKE TO MANAGERS AND WHO EVER ELSE I COULD TALK TO AND THEY SAID THAT I WAS RESPONSIBLE.

Sounds typical. I went through two sets of Dodge brakes before switching to parts store brakes and that's when the warping stopped. I don't know who makes the OEM parts but they suck ass. Don't bother with the stealership because they will say something stupid like you're driving too fast or you drove through a puddle.

I just can't believe they can say that with a straight face and not expect a broken nose. I wanted to trash the disservice manager at the stealership where I bought my truck when he gave me the water horse shlt. I said, "so if it's raining or damp out I should park the truck and stay inside?" to which he responded that all brake rotors warp when they get wet. What a fukking lying dick wad.

Don't listen to the shlt heads on this flamers board who tell you you have to drive like granny on her way to church to avoid warping the brakes. The Dakota brakes are yet another flaw in the design of this vehicle that fail prematurely. They are way to small for the weight of this truck. Plain and simple, Dodge cheaped out on the brakes. In 25 years of driving I have never had rotors warp. Period. And I've owned at least 40 different vehicles.

Dodge has a history of Dodging the bullet when it comes to poor design and this is yet another example.

I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab with 38000 miles on it. I changed my brakes and rotor over the weekend because someone gave me the advise to change the rotors if this was the first time of changing the brakes. Really good advice. The front of the rotors looked wore but would be turnable. Took the rotors off anyway and the back of the rotors were completely wore out so bad that there was no plating left on the back.
After having the new brakes and rotors on, i am wondering if I had bought it with wore rotors and brakes. Pressing the brake pedal and it only goes in about 1/8" and it is stopping. Before, was pushing the brake pedal half way to the floor to get the brakes to engage.
Bought Duralast Gold brakes and 2 yr. warranty rotor from Autozone.

I own a 2000 Dodge Dakota extended cab. I have 65000 on it. I'm about to install my second set of rotors. The first time I thought it was just one of those things but now after it happened the 2nd time I decided to see if anybody else out there has had the same problem and sure looks that way. Came home today and the rotor was so hot it was smoking. There are some good sorces in here for after market that I'm going to try. Thanks to all for the advice.

99 Dak 4x4 CC . Bought new. Brakes warped at 20,000. Dealer turned the rotors. That lasted less then 3,000 miles. I went to NAPA and bought there best rotor. $56.00 each jobber price. I used the same original pads as they looked new. I now am pushing 80,000 and brakes are perfect and still better then 50%. Just for kicks, it took 20 minutes per side to change them. I do have an air wrench. Some of you guys was taken to the cleaners on replacing these junkers. my total cost was $112 and 40 minutes easy work.

Maybe this was hit or miss with quality control ? I would often get a feeling like warped rotors from pad transfer with the stock front brakes; and felt their performance was marginal. I plan my braking well ahead when possible, and usually go almost twice as far as my wife before needing a brake job - but not with this truck. Rotors started delaminating and wiped out the pads before 50,000. Noticed better performance after switching to aftermarket parts.

With the front responsible for about 70% of braking, and the difference I saw just with basic aftermarket parts, I think it's more than that.
