Yes, it was an Indiana based company, once the largest burger joint behind the golden arches. Then they sold out to hardees and all units were renamed hardees.
YOu could go there and order the burgers without any condiments and then fix 'em yourself at the feeding trough.....er I mean fix it trough....er I mean fix it station.
The mascots were burger chef and jeff.

My mom and dad talk about the Burger Chef being THE place to hang out when they were young and dating. There would be price wars with the other burger joints in town. Ten cent burgers - wouldn't it be nice? Talk about a cheap date! ;-)

Had a burger stand here when I was young > Sold burgers 5 for a buck and they was great > Loaded like you wanted them > Large drink was 15 cents and a very large order of great fries ( made on the spot from real potatoes ) Was 20 cents > Ate there a lot and it was hard to finish an order

I worked for a Burger Chef when I was 16 in 1976. It was a great place to work, and the burgers where delicious!
