Message: This does not have anything to do with an actual Dakota, but I have a question regarding buying a used vehicle in general. I am looking at a 99 Dakota from a private seller. I am sure there is still money owing on the truck to Chrysler financing. If I give this guy X dollars, how can I be sure the debt to Chrysler will be paid out of my payment to him. I don't want to risk getting stuck with the balance owing if this guy does not pay them. Has anybody dealt with this situation before? I am sure it must be fairly common. Please help if you can.

Message: That may depend, are you taking over the loan? I think that the original loan would be in his name otherwise. The truck would be in your name, and not the original loan. You may want to talk to your bank, but I dont think you could be stuck with the loan, unless your agreeing to take over the payments. DONT take this as gospel, just my thoughts on the matter. Good luck, and good truck!!
