Bill Cosby was anything but politically correct in his remarks at a Constitution Hall bash in Washington commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Brown vs. Board of Education decision. To everyone's astonishment, laughter and applause, Cosby mocked everything from urban fashion to black spending and speaking habits.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the lower economic people are not holding up their end in this deal," he said Monday night. "These people are not parenting. They are buying things for kids - $500 sneakers for what?
"And they won't spend $200 for 'Hooked on Phonics.' ...
"They're standing on the corner and they can't speak English," he said. "I can't even talk the way these people talk: 'Why you ain't.' 'Where you is.' ... And I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk. And then I heard the father talk. ... Everybody knows it's important to speak English except these knuckleheads. ... You can't be a doctor with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth!"
When Cosby finally concluded, Howard University President H. Patrick Swygert, NAACP President Kweisi Mfume and NAACP legal defense fund head Theodore Shaw came to the podium looking stone-faced. Shaw told the crowd that most people on welfare are not African-American, and many of the problems his organization has addressed in the black community were not self-inflicted.

It doesn't sound at all to me that Bill Cosby was being racist in his comments. Not once did he mention color specifically. He talks about lower class people and last time I checked the lower class wasn't soley comprised of minorities. In his comments he points out charactaristics that describe many lower class people no matter what their race. I agree 100% with him, there are too many people in the world, and I don't care what color they are, who make themselves sound uninteligent by speaking the way they do. How do the uneducated people who spend their time walking around the streets walking and talking like rappers plan on making it in the world? How are they going to find jobs?

I agree 100% with Cosby. If they want to stop being called nigggers the first step is to stop behaving like them.

i agree.although....with the music society the way it is these days...anyone can become famous.maybe thats what their hoping for.i cant talk,but i can rap.
its amazing what little talent(white or black) some of these people have.when i was growing up,if you couldnt shred on the guitar,you didnt have a chance of making it.now all you need is to be from the ghetto.

Kudos to Bill Cosby for offering a challenge to the colored to get off their arses and make something of themselves.

Now if he could only learn how to drive. I live several towns away from Cosby and had the misfortune to end up behind him while he was driving his new Jaguar at least 10 mph below the speed limit. Oblivious that he was holding up traffic; just staring ahead and grinning like an idiot when I got a chance to pass him. What a waste of a nice Jag...
