Message: Het alden, I have a 93 4x4 Dakota aswell and I would like to know what mods, no matter how small, you have done to your truck in order to fit those 31's.

Message: Alden, try resetting the computer, PCM might not like the change in tire height.
Andrew, I have a 95, you can fit 31s without any suspension lift, all you need to do is trim the front air dam corners where they meet the fender. I cut mine back at about a 45 degree angle from the top.
One word from the voice of experience, don't use the Dremel cutoff wheel, it melts the plastic and the cut looks like crap, use a hacksaw or exacto knife.

Message: Putting bigger tires on your truck will not affect the shift points because as far at the truck is concerned you still have the stock tires on. So if your speedometer is reading 20mph your tranny thinks your going 20mph but physicly you are going 24mph or close to. so it should shift as it did before but with you going a little faster. But you should get the pcm updated for the new tire size so everything runs the way it was designed.

Message: Thanks. I went to Americas Tire Co. and Les Schwab today and both said there was no way I was gonna fit 31's on my stock 93. They told me they would do it though, but once there on, there mine. No offense, but I need to hear from ANY 93 4x4 Dakota owner who has 31" tires on the stock wheels with NO heigth adjustments. You can see why I am a little hesitant to put them on. Limited budget.
Does anyone know about the lift kit from Les Schwab Tires? What does it consist of? Didnt find out they had on until a couple days after I went in there.

Message: hi andrew,i have had no problems but i removed the air dam & had a diamond plate skid plate built (cause mine was broke) it gives a better aproach angle.i dont do any serious off roading every once in a while they rub i am going to crank up the torsion bars a little.my freind did his 94 & has over 5000 miles since the only problem i noticed while driving his was it followed the groves in the road more but it could be he has a more agressive patern than mine.we have 93-94& 2-95s all with 31s & all 4x4,v8,clubcabs.

Message: To ans. the original Q (which no one has done yet) your tranny is controlled by a computer, The speed that you are shifting is controlled by the transmission computer. You want to change the sppe at which you shift,? reproram that computer, NOT the PCM.
