 Subject: '96 Dakota Sport Lift

Hey all! I've got a '96 Dakota Sport with 3.9 liter engine. I called the dealership here in Las Vegas today and, to my dismay, the guy I spoke with said he knew of no way I could lift my truck. Then I found this site! Any have any input on how I would be able to lift my truck, and an estimated cost on doing it? Thanks in advance!

Try a different Dealer. Though your options are limited, there are lift kits available for your truck.
A body lift will cost you between $100 and $200 bucks for a kit (depending on the brand) and with take you a few hours to install. It can be installed with only a few hand tools and only one special tool is required. The automatic shifter linkage needs to be cut and welded back together with and extension in the middle. I did have a problem with the cab mounts on mine and have details of the installation on my ’88 Dakota on my webpage.

Trailmaster is the only manufacturer who makes a suspension lift for your truck. If you hunt around you will be able to find the kit for around $1300. It also requires replacing the stock rims for rims with negitive offset. If you have a solid mechanical ability, you should be able to install it in a couple of days, but it is a major undertaking and the instructions are not really clear. If your unsure, Pay someone to install it for you. In the end, it’ll cost you about $2500-$3000 total including installation. I keep meaning to scan the instructions and post them on my site. I’ll have to do that this evening and I’ll post the page URL here later.
