I think Knobbyman and dpkerns oughtta each get a free lift, free install (or reimbursement if they did it themselves)and residuals on all lifts sold for 2000+ Daks just for 'loaning' their 20+ thousand dollar personal vehicles to Ian and his peeps to do R&D. Certainly a lot cheaper than them buying their own vehicles to perfect their product. Just my .02

I agree, but I think that dpkerns did get a free lift and install. If you can call free dealing with failed brakes and an alignment issue:) Speaking of Knobbyman, wonder how he is doing with the lift? mmm... hopefully the weather has held out for him so he can get his truck back on the road:)

Yeah, but I think dpkerns kinda got hosed on the deal. The brake line problem shoulda been known before they put the lift on - and the alignment problem....well, it's just taking too long prooly due to the fact that they did the lift in AZ and dp lives in CA. Maybe a local donor vehicle would have been a better idea in the long run. Oh well, at least SOMEONE is working on a lift....Rome wasn't built in a day. I still think that Knobbyman and dpkerns should get some residuals for all their trouble!!!

Sorry I've been MIA but as you all have probably guessed I've been working on my truck.

There were a few parts that needed some.... Umm.. work? to get them to fit correctly. I have taken pictures and sent the measurements to Travis (The guy that did dpkerns truck) and he told me that the problems would be fixed period. Also I remember I posted somewhere... that the guy still works for Chassis Tech that did Dpkerns truck this Was true. He is in the process of moving back to California and will be there on Monday to open his new shop. I think he and dpkerns were going to finish the 6.5" lift there.

The guy that was suppose to be installing my truck (remember that free install stuff that ended on the 4th? well I ordered my lift on the 4th so I got that). Anyway Michael (the installer) has been to my house 3 days. Saturday, Sunday, and Thursday. It was raining Monday - Wednesday. Anyway He is grinder happy and ground off the wrong brackets (I'm about ready to shoot him for that). So he was suppose to come back Friday to weld those back on and weld a piece into my steering linkage but he never showed up. It is now 5:05 pm CST and he hasn't showed up today either. He has about 1:30 hours of sunlight left to weld these pieces back on but I know he's not going to show up.

My biggest problem with the lift has been Michael not the actual pieces in the lift. I was able to make those work with a little coaxing and I think that Ian was going to send me the fixed pieces once he gets those. I knew going into this that mine was the first 4.5" lift off the line so I wasn't to pissed when some things needed to be cut down a little 1/4" here 1/4" there surprisingly there wasn't all that much that needed to be done. 2 pieces to be exact and it was no big deal. My largest problem is that I don't have the instructions (Michael has them) so I'm not quite sure how everything else is suppose to go back together. I'm going to call dpkerns to see if he can take a picture of his front anti-sway bar and his T-Bars to see how they fit in the mid-section of the vehicle because those are the only 2 things that I'm not 100% sure on.

Anyway I have company coming from out of town and they'll be here in under 45minutes so I have to hurry up and clean my self & my apartment up so that I look somewhat presentable. I just wanted to give all of you a update.

BTW. Ian is moving out to AZ so that he can watch everything that's going on and make sure it's done correctly.

I agree with you all 100% I should be getting some kind of discount for the information on how everything is fitting or not fitting together with this lift. I just hope that Ian & Truckin-Suspension realize how much of a pain it is to not have your baby for over a week now. (heh I wonder what 4wheel parts has done with my tires that I was suppose to pick up last Saturday).

Knobby, did Michael cut off the upper a-arm brackets from the frame? I thought I saw that chop job in one of the install pictures and figured I must have been seeing things since only the factory bump stops were supposed to be cut-off:) Sucks the installer is MIA(free or not), hopefully dpkerns can come through for ya with the pics so you can be driving the KnobbyMonster on Monday! If I was in the area, you can bet I'd be putting my lift install experiences to work for you with a helping hand.

Michael cut off the bump stops upfront like he was supost to.. But he cut off the front bracket for my leaf springs (on both sides) You'd think he'd figure it out once he messed up one side... Anyway I found a co-worker of my dads that has a portable welder who will help me out. So I'm going to weld & bolt those back on and then have my truck towed to a shop that knows what they are doing. Anyway I think I can finish this myself but I just don't have the time to do it. Ya know..

What a moron, I have read the install instructions more than once since they put them out a month ago and no where does it say anything about cutting any parts off the rear end.

Assuming he used a cut-off wheel and not a torch(wouldn't suprise me:), you would have to replace the 1/16" or so of steel that was lost when it was cut off and keep everything perfectly square for welding at the same time. Unless a master welder is performing the work I think I would buy new brackets from a dealer or used from a junkyard rather than try to fix the ones he cut-off. It's just one of those parts that needs to be at factory spec and strength, especially when installng a lift that is altering drive line angles to begin with IMO. Wouldn't want to be doing some wheelin and have a broken weld ruin your day.

NA Taurus THIS! ;-) j/k .. I have a company van ;-). So it's not THAT bad... lol yesterday I sat in my truck up on the jackstands... Just so I could remember what it felt like... HOLY CRAP it's sitting high. That was cool.. Anyway Michael is the owner of that shop. I told him flat out I don't want his sloppy, fat, slacker self to not touch my truck. Need less to say he didn't show up friday or saturday. I told him that somewhere around 3:00 pm and he was supost to be at my place at noon. Anyway I'm putting my truck together about 2 pieces a day because I don't have time. If nothing else I should have my truck at a shop that knows what's going on next weekend. (GAH!! 3 weeks w/o my truck) LOL man I sure know how to keep miles off it. If it comes to that (which I hope it doesn't but know it will) BAH!! This Michael guy better not screw with me anymore.. I'm going to get really pissed if he does.......... and trust me.. you don't want to see a pissed off Knobbyman.

:-p anyway on a lighter note. I think I'm going to order some new brake pads & rotors since it's all torn apart anyway I might as well right?

Well the installer backed out.. He is leaving his jackstands under my truck because ... well I don't know why maybe he realizes that me messed up and can't fix it because he's not smart enough. Funny if I think about it because even I know how to fix it and I haven't done this before.. But who says he has?

I called Ian he assured me that he would have Dan (the guy that replaced Travis) make sure I got new correctly speced parts.

Looks like it is starting to come together, all the pain and suffering will be worth it though(as long as alignment is OK) once you get behind the wheel and drivers of stock full size trucks have to look up to see who is driving the badass Dak while you drive over parked cars with the greatest of ease:) The more pics I see the more likely I am to be the second one on this website to put this lift on my Dak.

I take it the rear drop down spring brackets(1/4" LOL) are a replacement of the factory brackets? Do they bolt into the same holes?

Mike - Nope no drive shaft extension needed (so far) also they said they didn't need one on the 6.5" lift.

OH!! I found a Dana 44 laying around.. maybe I'll just stick that in instead :-p

From what I've been hearing, 35's on 15x10s are going to rub even with the 6.5" lift. Offset rims would make the tires stick out further, right? If so, I think it would make it worse.

I was hopin' Knobby would go for the 6.5" but he wussed out. ; ) Just kiddin' knobby. ;)

Hey Knobby,

I wouldn't weld those leaf spring hangers to the frame. Welding weakens the frame. I would check with a body shop or the dealer on how they replace those hangers, better safe than sorry, IMO.
