Subject: Why are people afraid of the 2.5 IP: Logged
Message: Almost every time the 2.5 engines are brought up in the other forum some guy has to go in there and say how much they suck. What the hell is wrong with people why do they have to resort to ripping on there own Dakota and Dodge fans. If they need to rip on something can't they go to a ricer car forum? I mean I just fought off two retards on the open perfomance forum who were just convinced the 2.5 was not even worth driving. Maybe there are just to many retards posting stuff on these forums.

Message: I see that all the time. I don't get it, they must be bored :-) the way i look at it, we ALL have Dakotas. So why bicker about whose truck is faster/tows better... i mean, i have a 4.7L and I’m not about to bash anyone for having a different engine! We (i) used to catch alot of static, in the v6 board from the v8 guys... granted my new (to me :) 00 4.7L cc 4x4 gets about the same mileage as my 98 3.9L rc 2wd auto did! (if i can keep my foot out of it LOL)
i have never driven a 2.5L dak, but it cant be as bad as the bashers say... they have to think about the fact that that engine is lighter than a v6/v8. Hell I’ll bet that those guys (i read the other board) have never even SEEN a 2.5L Dakota! Let alone DRIVEN one!
in closing i would like to say; it dosent matter what engine you have, as long as it fulfills your needs!!!

Message: Yeah! Dan I am glad sombody under stands. I enjoy my 2.5 you don't just stab it and go you choose your gears carefully and time your passes just right it's more of a challenge to drive than the V6 and V8. But it is slow as hell so someday I too will be upgrading to a V8 or maybe even a Ram (a Hemi or Cummins would be sweet).

Message: oh yeah the CDT is a kick a$$ engine... i wonder if you can get the diesel in a rc manual tranny ram!! quick truck and great mileage!!
maybe you could throw a daytona turbo II motor in your dak! that would shut those bashers (trolls) up :-P

Message: Yeah that is just what I would like to to my Dakota but I was going to try and put a '89 up 2.5 turbo I engine then intercool it. They did not make the 2.5 in a intercooled turbo II version only the 2.2. So I figure a 2.5 with the longer stroke would be better in a Dakota. I have been searching the internet for somebody that has did the swap and there might be 2 other guys that have done it. The one guys did a swap on a '87 his website is not up anymore so that is not any help. And the other guy works with a guy that posts on the www.turbododge.com forum. Hopefully I can get some info on the swap from him. If I ever do get a turbo engine in there those engines are capable of making 300hp and still living a long life on the street. Can't wait to blow the doors off a V8 S-10 with only a four banger.
Oh yeah those Cummins Rams are sweet there is one running low 11 sec 1/4 miles at 124 mph it is the national record holder right now. If I had the money I would get a Ram 2500 RC LB with the H.O. Cummins and a 6 speed at 305 hp those things fly.

the new CTD is 325 HP and 600 lb/ft of torque!!! thats incredible!! imagine the cummins 600 diesel in a rc gen II dakota!!!! that would be a BLAST to drive :-)

Message: The 4.0 Jeep might work pretty good in a gen III Dakota with a 2.5 since the 2.5 is just a 4.0 missing 2 cylinders. Or better yet a Hyper Pack slant six. But they might be to long to fit without the firewall mods like they did on the Banks Diesel Dakota. That Dakota is one sweet ride with that 5.9 cummins in it. It goes over 200mph driveable on the street, tows a trailer, can run the 1/4 mile, and all while geting over 20mpg. I have not heard what it does in the 1/4 mile yet, though it should be interesting.

Message: i have a a video of that banks diesel dakota.. its awesome sounding, and it MOVES!! if i ever put an engine in a project dak, i would use a 340! there pretty light, and rev happy! all theese guys stuffing 400+ CI big blocks in there dakotas (nothng wrong with that) i just like effeciency!! thats why i got the 4.7L :-)
though it would be pretty cool, to stick the ol' 225 I6 in a dakota...
my dad had a 4 door dart when i was little, and it had the slant 6. that car was sooo reliable!! even it it was 10* outside, you could just bump the key (without pumping the accellerator) and it would start right up!! just like fuel injection! it wasnt fast, but it was a good reliable family car (67-68 i bieleve) damn i wish he still had it :-P

| RE: Why are people afraid of the 2.5 IP: Logged
Message: You Don't even need a 340 to make good power anymore. Mopar Muscle Magazine just made a bolt together 318 that made 400hp on pump gas with magnum heads and M1 intake. But if I had money I think a big block would be sweet in a dakota. A stroked 400, fuel injected, with a 5 speed, and aluminum heads is almost as light as a SB. And there are shops out there that can lighten the BB even more to get it under SB weight.
Mopar Muscle also did a buildup on the slant six awile ago and got it to go 13's in a 4 door '62 Dart.

Message: i have an interesting dakota concept for you... a Dodge Dakota SRT/10 with the viper v10 under the hood! that sucker would probably blow the srt/10 ram off the road! i just love how a v10 sounds! i hate to admit it, but that 6.8L v10 that ford makes is a pretty mean engine (imagine that in a light a$$ mustang) my cousin had an 00 excursion, and that thing would MOVE!!
wow this thread has sure wandered off topic LOL J/K :-) bed time for me!

Message: Yeah we are a little far off the subject of four bangers. But I am making some headway on another forum some guy is puting a chrysler turbo engine in a '95 so I might be able to get some info from him. I don't know how the fuel system, the electronics, and turbo mounting will come together so he might be able to help me there.
Dodge did to a concept of a dakota with a viper V10 a few years ago though it did not look much like a dakota I think it was called the Sidwinder. It was more along the lines of the Chevy SSR pickup. Hey that is where Chevy got the idea for the SSR they stole it from Dodge except they forgot to put an powerful engine in it all it has it 300hp for its 5000 lbs. Chevy can't even copy a good idea.
I think ford did a concept of mustang with the V10 I guess it was a little to scary fast for the public plus it had a big ass bulge in the hood to fit it in. But that super charged 500 hp V8 in there GT supper car will work just as well in there next cobra in a few years.

Message: welll i guess since we are a little off topic (still dak realted though :) someone at the factory I work at, has a nice looking gen1 RC, long bed, silver (grey) 3.9L dakota. I have yet to talk to him, as he works out back (about 1/4 of a mile away from my work area) it runs nice too! I think it has a cherry bomb muffler, and its a manual tranny... as he pulled away from the stop, I overheard someone say "geez what a POS!" I thought to myself *thats no POS, thats the beginning of a LEGEND!*
some people just wouldn't understand :-)

Message: I wonder what a cherry bomb or other higher flowing muffler would sound like on my 2.5 I would also like to put a high flow cat on it. I don't want to sound like a ricer though but a little louder would be nice. What kind of muffler do you think would make my 2.5 sound nice?

Message: this is about the only 4 banger exhaust, I could find that dosent sound ricey :-) (no offense)
http://www.exhaustsoundclips.com/sound/chevy_s10_1997_2.24cy_gibsoncatback_2.5pipes_roundmuffler_sn009_.mp3
i don't know what muffler it uses, but it sounds good!! its a 2.2L s10 with a gibson cat back system...
again its your personal preference.. if you want quieter exhaust, the super turbo should sound on on the 2.5L (just a guess)

Message: I was looking at the Gibson exhaust systems that they make them for the V6 and V8s but I would think it would fit my 2.5 without much problems. Unless it is a 3" system then it my be a little big for the engine 2.5" would be plenty. If I ever get that turbo engine in there I will just run a 3" strait pipe they sound nice like that with and almost V8 like rumble and the turbo quiets it down quite a bit so it will not be to loud.
