okay people, four cylinder engines are the easyist ones to start off with. i know im like one of the only ones with a four cylinder engine in a dakota, but i will put it on a v6 in a heartbeat. i love to see the look in a ricers eyes when we stop at a station after they lose and find out its four cylinders just like they have. it makes me laugh, especally when i take out V6 with big mouths. I just wanna know what all people with 4cyl. have done to it to make it better. I also want to know if there is a way around the rev limiter. Is there something i could do like solder on a resistor to bypass it?

I have made a few mods to my engine. I just ordered a Dynomax super turbo muffler to add to the exhaust. I dont race much, I do more off roading than anything. Anything to make this truck faster helps though.

Dude Im with ya!!

Well not really but I love being the underdog and in your case you are for sure!! I still dont get much love from V8 Dak peeps but thats ok, they just hand me the cash after we race and all is well. :-D>

Try KRC, they have a link on here in the "links" section. I know they mod PCM's for all V6 and V8's to raise the redline so it might stand to reason they would for 4 bangers?

2 thoughts for you my Dak friend: think light, fiberglass everthing and maybe Turbo. If you hav a 2.5 I understand you can probably retro a Labaron 2.5 turbo setup to your Dak. Ask DiligentDave, IntenseDak39 or SpeedTweaks. I think they all have pretty good info on that setup.

Just tryin to hang with the displacement'ly challenged. lol

yeah, i've got a slot with speedtweaks for the 4cyl test truck, but thats when they get some time on thier hands to give it a shot. i have looked into the older chrysler turbo's and they will pretty much fit, its a matter of fabrication on some parts, no big deal. as for light, i have changed the driveshaft, now its not the 4 inch around steel piece of shiat that it was, intake, exhaust is next, but all this does no good when im locked up at 5400 rpm. I KNOW this engine has at LEAST another 2gs of rpm in it, i just need to get there, if anyone can help, let me know, but when i find out, i will be sure to post it.

you might think it has a couple more 1000 rpms but you gotta think in terms of the valve train. My shelby was a high rev 4 banger but not with the stock hardware. I had some JE Piston high rpm lifters and rockers, new valves, stiffer springs... you get the idea.

either way good luck!

fazdak,
when are you gonna hand over my cash?

Ummmmm, another 1000rpm? I seriously doubt that. I could spin mine to a 6krpm limiter but I don't. It hurts the times. Above 5500 the motor is better off being shifted than spinning wildly. And that is track tested. By me.

Until you turbo it, there would be no reason to want to spin it very fast. But if you do go turbo, by all means rev the hell out the thing. Put in a bulletproof valvetrain and have at it. But I know that shifting at 5500 is the best for me.
