These are HOT! The retail on them is high, so I need to get an idea of how many people would want them, and then I will be able to get an awsome deal on them. anywhere from 10%-50% better price than retail. Who is interested? Leave an email address.

The dude at the "truck-n-van" shop told me that 99 Dakotas were "harder" to deal with since they put the hood release latch in a different place.

Was he just blowin' me smoke... I kinda am getting the feeling that he was.

Man... that is why I have mostly started getting my parts on the net and doing it myself! As a matter of fact, I just got in my Lund Interceptor bug deflector... a shop basically wanted $100 to install it normally plus another $40 if I wanted it painted. I bought it on the net for $54, and put it on myself...

NOW THATS THE POWER OF THE WEB! I love it!

I heard they can decrease airflow and make you lose hp. I also heard that because of the hood latch they can be very difficult to install.

Does anyone know if I was hearing correct info???

On the SS ones you really wont lose much airflow at all, so I cant imagine much loss of HP if any. I only have heard of that with the lund brand that is much more dense and almost blocks air flow completely. Also, they come with a hood latch relocator, some people have had problems with it while other say its just fine...I guess its all in how you put it on.

Oh wow... that's tempting!!!

However, I still have my eye on the Grillcraft (which I still can't get any opinions on...)

I called them and they said that the main difference between their product and StreetScene was that their product is more of a replacement "protective" grill made from steel with a "frame" versus the SS which is just an "insert".

Now I don't know if it makes much of a difference, but I mostly want some kind of protection for my radiator from street debris... I do know however that the Grillcraft's are WAY more expensive (but does that denote quality versus profit?)

I guess I will just have to think on this some more...

Now that grill looks like it might restrict airflow! Tighter "weave" than the Street Scene grill, from what I can see. You're not gonna get much more strength from the steel grill ... the frame is still plastic. If you hit anything with either grill ... it'll be toast.

Just an opinion, DarkFury. I know you were looking for some feedback.

Ok Blizzard... now I gotta ask you some questions...

Where did you find out that the frame is plastic? I asked the sales rep from Grillcraft and he assured me that these grill were A1 quality and exceeded the quality of the Street Scenes and even OEM products (no doubt). Therefore I had assumed that the entire product was steel with a powdercoat finish.

He also mentioned that air restriction is a major concern in their primary market of sellin' the the "fast and furious" rice boys... however they claim that their aren't any problems with air restriction due to differences in grille weave. Now I didn't dispute his claim, but I am sure someone who has these could if it is a problem.

They stated that since their product was an actual grill (with a frame) versus and insert that it had far greater protective properties (protecting the radiator from road debris).

Do you think they were blowing me a line of shit...? I just wish I could find someone who actually has these on their vehicle to prove or disprove their quality.

I like how the SS grilles look, but my MAIN concern is protecting my upper and lower radiator. Here in the state of Indiana, they are CONSTANTLY working on the roadways and loose rocks and debris are all over the highways (not to mention the dayuum potholes... not that they are a factor in buying a grille).

I just want to make sure that my $18,000 investment doesn't go south due to an errant rock or something.

I appreciate any and all opinions...and I would be overjoyed to hear the experiences of someone who has bought these.

Okay ... I didn't realize the grill frame was a replacement too! Then it's gotta be sturdier than the factory grill. To be honest, I haven't seen that grill before and don't know anyone who runs them. By the lack of response you've received on the boards, I'm guessing nobody around here has that grill. I'd be curious to hear from someone that has a grill like that too.

It's too late for me, cuz I already installed my Street Scene inserts. But if you can find out that the Grillcraft is what you're really after, it might pay to keep asking around. You could try posting on the Dakota forum at moparchat.com or check the archives of the DML at dakota-truck.net. Somebody, somewhere, has to have that grill!

Best of luck

I finally contacted Grillcraft again about their Dakota grills... The rep that I spoke with (Jerry) stated that these grilles will be available for the Dakota very soon!

He was stating that they were "perfecting" the hood release mechanism on the Daks and that they should be ready by month's end.

He even sent me a photo of what the grilles look like up close (even though the pic he sent me was from a Chevy Sierra). Here is what they look like:

Once again, Jerry assured me that airflow restriction is not a factor and that this product is far superior to the Street Scenes insert (due to the formed metal frame, steel mesh, and bolt on process...

So what do y'all think now? Personally... I am starting to lean in their direction a lil bit more... I just wanna see them in person.

BTW... he stated that their "new" website will be up and running soon with pictures of a complete install process on a Dak... I just can't wait to see that!

The Grillcraft looks really sharp. Some of those inserts look godawful. There are a lot of F150s around here with them on, but I've only seen a couple of Dakotas, and the ones I saw looked pretty trashy. My truck is black, so I wouldn't want something that would clash.
I had never thought about the vulnerability of the rad before. Has anyone had any problems with this, basically there's just a little plastic frame protecting it. Do you have a ballpark price yet?

Lesley... look up about 3 posts to get a "ballpark" price on the Grillcrafts.

BTW, out of all the "inserts" I think this one has the most "protective qualities" since it is made of steel and not chrome plated aluminum.

I just found them at stylinconcepts too, at $157.95 upper, $101.95 lower, boy they do look sharp. They come in black too. Can anyone confirm the install time? If it takes hours, that would add considerable to the cost. Is it a do-it-yourself job, for someone who is definitely not much of a do-it-yourselfer?

Well... I had followed up on this previously. See my previous post.

However, so far, I haven't heard anything about whether or not they "perfected" the hood lock mechanism that they were working on a month ago.

I too like these grills... not only for their "style" but also for there stated "protective quality". I wouldn't think that the install time would be much more than any other insert, the only difference here is that the Grillcraft is actually a complete unit piece (the insert has its own frame) which bolts directly to your hood... Therefore you don't have to worry as much about connecting it to the existing structure (or such as stated by their "representative".)

I might have to give these guys another call and get an update on the Grillcraft status...
