To get a hood painted even at a "ok" shop is going to run you $150.00 and then depending on where you take it more. The cost of prep, color, and clear are just too high to have it done or less, but you might be able to sneek by for 100.00 if your lucky! Anyway I'M still working on this! Please dont just jump-in and order let me see what I can do. Im trying to include a few differnt types of hoods in the group buy and get special pricing on all of them. Maybe the Shaker, Cowl, and AAR. Im also taking to a custom shop that makes funtional Cobra hoods, I know they look alittle "ford" but man the Dodge Ram one they made looks great!

That prestigious1 hood is pretty nice. I think that is probably what I will go with due to price and function. I emailed AAR about the hood being functional for the 4.7. I still have had no reply but I can't seem to find anyone that says that they make an air box for the 4.7. I really would like the Shaker but $755 is a lot more than I have. A good old cowl is always a good addition and is functional with any engine. Also, Prestigious is only a couple of hours away from me in Tyler, TX. No shipping for me.

The hood from Prestigiuos is a Reflexxion. It is a very well made hood. It's the one that Bernd has. Bernd said that it lowered his underhood temp by around 15 degrees. He also said that under 40 mph air actually flows through but over 40 it actually sucks cold air off of the windshield. He evidently did a lot of testing on his hood. I am going to pick mine up on Saturday for $399. If anyone else is interested in this hood let me know quick, maybe we could work out a deal with him on even a couple hoods. I'm acutally getting it from a place called Preston. The owners of Prestigious and Preston are brothers.

Guys, I was going to get in on the group buy, but im going to wait! I would suggest that you do the same! I got an "tip" that there will be a new hood on the market very soon, and it will actually be fully functional ram-air, that is actually tested and proven. Its also a new design, and produced from a new composite that isnt fragile like fiberglass. Unfortunately thats all I can say for right now, but I should be able to back it up with pictures and prices in less than a week or two!!! STAY TUNED! The new hood will be available for the 97 to 2002 dakotas, and durangos. We hope to have some final prototype pictures by the end of the week (10-26-01), but dont hold me to that! i hate to get in the way of a group buy, so if you really like the AAR please go ahead and buy. If your not sure then hold on...you may like what is on its way!

Well, the prototype is setup! The new R-A hood is finally getting close to completion! WE expect to have product shipping by Christmas OR BEFORE!
Im not going to release any pictures yet, but I will give you some info!
The R-A system utilizes a very solid physics based inlet. It was developed by the same people who went on to develop NASA. It is also a classic Mopar design spec.
This is the first ACTUAL R-A hood Ive ever seen, and the first hood, after photoshooting is going stratight to testing including dyno, 1/4 mile, then smoke testing, and even airflow data.
The hood will use a "Different" airbox design then other dakota/durango competitors that actually utilizes the force of the ram-air while moving, and intakes cold air from outside the engine compartment at from a stop.
All I can say about the asthetics of the hood is "smooth", the hood really "flow"
The hood is also consturcted to be the most durable fiberglass hood available. Due to this fact it will not be as light as soom other fiberglass hoods but there will be no worrying about cracking or stressing!
There will be a introductory buy on the hoods as soon as we verify the testing!
As soon as I have painted picutes Ill post them!

There have been 2 prototypes for this hood so far, that as far as I know a VERY limited number of people ever saw. The final prototype uses the same physics and air-intake, and heat extraction concepts but the scoop is cimpletely different as well as the entire asthetics! So if by chance you got forwarded the pics of the on eof the prototypes you can discard them..its really not even the same hood except for the fact that it operates the same way!

I think you have it all wrong. The company who is making this has made lots of other custom hoods before, but never one for a Dakota. It a new design, new physics behind the performance, and new to the market. I really cant say a whole lot more as I am held to a non-disclosure pertaining to specifics. Hopefully 2 weeks and we will have some pictures of it mounted on a dakota!

Everything went really well, and even though we need to make a few minor adjustments we are just days away from completion.
