Message: Hey all,
I have been looking at a Vortec SC for about 3 months now. I get really close to making the call when that $2800 price tag changes my mind. I've read alot of posts where people are asking about them, so I'm sure a few would be interested. At $2800, it would probably just take a few to lower that price drastically.

The $2800 doesn't sound like the entire kit. Also sounds like the old "S-Trim" and not the new "SQ Series" kit.
The SQ Series includes EVERYTHING to install including the Crane Ignition system with Boost Retard...basically all you need to bolt on in a few hours.
They're not $2800 though...

In the 50 state legal kits, all necessary components including brackets, hardware, drive, lubrication, fuel & ignition components are included in the box at the time of purchase. No other modifications are necessary. No hood or body modifications are required.

That's the pricing from Alternative Automotive. They're website hasn't been updated in months. Vortech doesn't sell them to the dealers at those prices anymore. Those are also the older S-Trim blowers and the SQ Series isn't much more at all on the price.

Message: Ok, talked to someone at Alternative Auto that talked to Leo "the boss", and he said Leo isnt interested in doing a group buy. I dont understand why he wouldnt want to do a $10,000+ deal, but oh well. Also talked to Marty at KRC Performance. He seemed very eager to help us out. He said that we could just use his account to buy the kits, and he would be happy just making $100 (total). So for anyone seriously interested, need to know the year/engine and when you are planning to buy so he can do the math for a final price. I will call him back with the info, and set us up an account so each individual can call KRC direct for the discount. If anyone reads other Dakota newsgroups, might want to run it by them. I'm sure the more we get, the better the price.

| Vortec vs Powerdyne IP: Logged
Message: What about Powerdyne's, how do they compare to the Vortec's. Reason I ask is that I know some folks have gotten thier Powerdyne with all the trimmings for ~$2200 to thier door, and you can get them without a group buy for $2850 from http://www.worldwideperformanceparts.com/cgi-bin/thatsanorder?cat|Powerdyne-Dodge_Dakota/Durango without a group buy.
Anyone want to clue in a newbie to this arena as to why to go with a Vortec instead of a Kenne Bell or Powerdyne. I know the KB has a custom fuel management setup and gives instant boost as opposed to the centrifugal's that have to get up to 2500RPM's to start putting out air. On the flip side the KB's suck gas at highway speeds from what I hear, because even at normal ~2500 RPM highway speed your boosting pretty good.
Sorry if this is the wrong place to post these questions, just curious. I'm all over buying an SC but I'm not convinced which is the best for performance vs economy for a daily driver / weekend racer.
What's Vortec's web site?
Thanks,

Message: Unless you're running Nitrous, Supercharger, Cam/Intake, or modified heads (with a combination of the others), the 50mm is more than adequate for the daily driver. The 52mm does work but some have reported a slight loss on bottom end.
Make sure that you are running at least a Cold Air Kit, Headers, and CatBack with the 52mm if you are going to use it.
Personal recommendation: 50mm.
