 Subject: Oil Change interval with Mobil 1?

Hey all,
With my last oil change I have switched to Mobil One. (6K miles on it.) I was wondering what is a good interval of changing the oil and filter? I am currently (and will always) be using K&N oil filters and Mobil 1. Should I change every 3000 or higher?
Just some side notes on my driving. I drive about 80 miles total to and from work on the rural highways so most of the time I am going about 60-70 until I get into town. This equals about 3000 miles every 2 months or less.
By the way, since I have switched to Mobil One, I noticed improved gas mileage and it seems to have a bit more zip!
Thanks for any suggestions.

I just switched to Mobil One, I am hoping to see a little beter MPG number. I plan on keeping the schedule oil changes @ 3000 miles because that is aound 3 months for me. I think I would check my oil @ 3000 miles and if it was still clean I would go to the 3 months or 4500 miles. Thats just my opinion. What did you have to pay for your oil? I couldn't find it any cheaper than $26.00\case. (and that was @ WalMart) Did you see the post about the 2 liter bottle oil filter changing trick? Slick, someone was thinking!

If you love your truck this much (which u onviously do or you would use plain ol oil)
Why wouldnt you change your oil every 3000 miles?

Damn, you only paid $26 for a case of Mobil 1? Is it a 6 quart case or 12 quart case? I paid $4.20/quart at Target. If that's the price for 12 quarts, I guess I'll have to make the trip to Walmart.
I can attest to the 2-litter bottle trick, clean as a whistle!!! Bill in NY is the man that uses his head for more than just a hat rack.
I plan on changing my oil every 4000 or 4500 miles while using Mobile 1.

What is so confusing about the question???
I asked the question because I figured that with Mobile 1 and its superior quality and performance, that it might hold up longer than conventional oils, which apparantly it does.
I don't have a problem changing every 3000 miles but I was wondering if I could go longer (like 5000 miles) before I had to change it without neglecting my engine since I drive 3000 miles in little over a month.
Just a question geez. We don't need to know how you feel about it. We are all looking for answers here.

Sorry Riley, That is a 6 quart case. This is the first time I didn't take my truck in for a change,(because of the Mobil One switch) I don't know what I would have done without that 2 liter bottle trick. Thanks Bill in NY! I don't like to drink coke alone, so I had to also get a bottle of jack to help empty out the 2 liter filterchangeroilcatchermanwhatagoodidea thingamgigy. The 2 liter bottle dosen't look reusable, can't wait till my next oil change.

Im sorry you took the post the wrong way. I didnt mean that it was a dumb question or anything like that...all Im saying is why stretch it, even if you can? As I said if you care so much to put in mobil 1 (which I do) why not just change it every 3000 or 3 months (like I also do) It was just my opinion, I wasnt bashing you in anyway bro...sorry if it came out like that

I use the 2 liter plastic soda bottle diddy and it works great. Leave cap on an empty 2 liter plastic soda bottle and then with say a razor cut about 3 inches off the bottom of the bottle. Use your filter wrench and loosen up the oil filter and then slip the open end of the soda bottle up through the access whole and onto/over the oil filter. Squeeze the soda bottle and turn until the filter is loose and falls into the bottle. Lower the soda container with the filter down and out of the access whole. Can tell you filter is pretty hot so I use a pair of latex gloves on my working hand to insulate from the heat. Also, I then pour the oil out of the filter into my drain pan and then the dirty filter goes into a saved coffee can with lid. keeps all clean..

If the vechile is under warranty then stick with the recomended service intervals that most closely match your usage. If you are no longer under warranty their is no reason that you should not be able to get at least 4 mounths or 7500 miles easily. The only way to know for sure though is with oil testing. One guy I work with fills his malibu up with Mobile1 10w30 and then changes his filter every 5000 miles and tops off the engine and goes 15,000 miles between oil changes. I change mine every 7000 miles or 4 months wich ever comes first. If you invest in Amsoil bypass filtering system or one like it you could in extended you change interval until the additive packages broke down. Filtration and addative package life cycle are the limiting factors.

I'm changing the Mobil 1 (and filter) every 6000 to 6500 miles. The manual says 7500 with non-synthetic oil, so this is well within spec. When Mobil 1 first came out, it was printed on the bottle that you didn't have to change it until 25000 miles. As soon as they realized that they wouldn't be selling much oil after that, they
stopped saying it.
FYI: I did not "break in" the Dak with synthetic oil. I had heard somewhere that it's so slick, the parts don't get a chance to wear, seat, etc.
So, I waited until 9000 (3 oil changes) before I switched to Mobil 1.

Todays engine require alot less to break them in. The worse case senario if you used mobile one from day one is that it might take a few thousand more miles to break in but it will still break in. Most modern engines are broke-in buy 600-1000 miles. 98% of the accelarated wear from break in occurs between 600-1000 miles. I always recomend the people change their oil at 500 miles and put either synthetic oil or a synthetic blend 10w30 in. I also think that a premium filter is the only way to go. Belding,Hastings, Mobile1, K&N and PureOne.

Hi All,
I would highly recommend oil analysis if you plan to run extended drain intervals with Mobil 1. It's a very good oil and will provide the lubrication and protection one expects from a good synthetic oil. It is not recommended for extended drains, tho. The additive package isn't formulated to last much beyond recommended change intervals.
From the Mobil1.com site (oil filter FAQ): Q: "Can I use the Mobil 1 High Efficiency Oil Filter to extend my oil drain intervals? Can I keep the filter on and just change the oil?"
A: "We do not recommend either practice. The high efficiency of the filter will ensure that your oil can provide maximum protection against engine wear, and the durability of the filter will ensure that you can go to the full extent of the mileage or time recommended in your car's owner's manual for oil and oil filter service.
You should follow the owner's manual recommendations for oil and oil filter service."
To my knowledge, there is only one oil that is designed to be run for extended intervals and has the corporate warranty (and 30 year history!) behind it - and that's AMSOIL.
Their Series 2000 oil is designed for a 1 year/35000 mile change. The balance of their oils for gasoline engines are warranted for 1 year/25000 mile changes. Their diesel oils are recommended for 3-times the manufacturer's recommended interval. All drain intervals can be extended nearly indefinately with a bypass filter and oil analysis.
I've used Mobil 1, Castrol Syntec, Rotella T synthetic, Valvoline royal blue synthetic, and AMSOIL. And I'm not changing (pun intended!) from AMSOIL.
Those of you running K&N filters: Remove the filter and run your finger around upstream of the filter. There's a lot of dirt getting thru! K&Ns breath very very well, but they don't stop much dirt. A lot of the dirt that gets past the filter will end up in the oil and will keep grinding away at the engine.
I'll be happy to talk to anyone on- or off-line about synthetics, filters, or extended drain intervals. I keep my cars for at least 10 years and service them accordingly.

About two months ago I found 5qt bottles of MobilOne for less than $16.00 at Wal-Mart, just over $3 per qt. I, being stupid, only bought two bottles thinking it wouild be a regular deal. They havent had it since and I go there weekly.

i just changed my oil with mobil 1 i went 7000 miles on it. but i am going to use my oil monitor this time around. when the guy poured the oil that was in the truck a trailblazer chevy that is i was mainly brown i dont know if it was dirty but it was brown so i am using what gm put on this auto a monitor that tells you when to change your oil thas it.why put technolgy on a auto and folk at the service ctr says every 3000. stupid really

Do not rely on the oil change monitors.
First, ... depending on the year of manufacture and type of engine design in the vehicle, the "idiot light" will vary from vehicle to vehicle. The monitor is basically a count down clock in American vehicles ... measuring hours in "points" ... whereby "points" are deducted based upon several factors including temperature at startup, idle time, speed, rpm, length of time the engine is running (short distance travel -- or lots of start and stop traffic -- deducts MORE points), shutdown temp, etc.
Only a Used Oil Analysis, performed in a laboratory and a controlled environment, can truly determine the quality of used oil and the remaining life of the oil.
There have been --- and are currently pending --- lawsuits against the manufacturers regarding these "idiot lights".
Especially Mercedes. The Mercedes "idiot light" was calculated using ONLY SYNTHETIC OIL. Many users poured conventional petroleum (dino) into their engines. Synthetic Drain Intervals are longer for synthetic oils than for dino oils --- so the engines ran the dino too long and the engines began to seize. Mercedes has settled in the USA for millions of dollars --- and the suits are pending in Canada.
Now the Mercedes Owners Manual is plastered with ...
