Hi guys I'm pretty new at tinkering with my truck and would just like to get some suggestions on what I could do to improve my horsepower and power output. I have a K&N filter and dual exhaust and was just curious on other suggestions for further modification. Also does anyone know if they make a muffler with the same horsepower output but doesn't have the moise increase with it as well? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey Jimmy..i have the same Dak..you may be interested in a larger throttle body(www.quickd.com),msd ignition, and autolite plugs.That's what i've learned here..Good Luck

I also have a 1997 Dakota 3.9L (SLT) and we're getting ready to put her into the dyno shop again. (Shooting for 260HP at the rear wheels this time.)

You're on the right track with the TB, Ignition, and Plugs...get the headers and exhaust system done as well as 3.90:1 gears and you've got yourself a damn quick V6.

Current Mods on my '97:

F&B Billet Throttle Body (50mm)
JBA Headers
Custom Exhaust (Dual-Tip Ravin...switching to DynoMax Ultra-Flow)
MSD Digital 6+
Taylor Wires
Autolite 3923 Plugs (.038" Gap)
PowerDyne Supercharger - 9# Boost
Ford Motorsports 24# Injectors
NX Nitrous System - 35HP Shot (Custom Jets)
Custom Built MAP and Timing Controller
Modified Intake Manifold (Ported and Port Matched)

I HAVE A 99 DAK AND I RECOMMEND CHANGE OUT ALL YOUR SEATS AND PUT IN A NEW STEERING WHEEL AND ALSO CHANGE THE PEDALS! THIS WILL ENHANCE THE FEEL OF THE RIDE! ALSO, CHANGE THE DRIVE SHAFT, PUT IN A SHIFT KIT, IF YOUR ENGINE IS SMALL CHANGE IT, AND REPLACE ALL OF THE PULLEYS, AIR INTAKES, MANIFOLD, THROTTLE BODY, PCM OR AT LEAST CHIP IT, AND THE FRAME SHOULD BE CONSIDERED FOR REPLACEMENT WITH TUBULAR, IF YOU HAVE ANY MONEY LEFT YOU SHOULD CONSIDER CHANGING THE RADIATOR, THE RIMS, ALL OF THE TIRES, AND IT HELPS IF YOU GET THREE INCH DUAL EXHAUST, USE ONLY SYNTHETIC OIL, DON'T FORGET TO ADD DECALS, EACH DECAL IS 5-8 HP.
