Its your rear wheel speed sensor. I just had mine replaced last week. Someone else told me that that was one of the symptoms of that going out though I did not experience that particular symptom with my speedometer. The rear wheel speed sensor is like $50 from the dealer which is the only place I could find one. Anyway hope this helps.

Rear wheel speed sensor is the problem. I changed mine last week. $51 part at the dealer and about 10 minutes to change at home. Very easy repair!

The sensor is located at the top of the rear diff. The brake lines come toghter at a braket there. The bolt that holds that braket also holds the sensor in place. Remove the bolt and pull the braket out of the way just a little bit. Next pull the sensor out. If it's stuck don't get mad just work at it with some spray lube. If you break the sensor off inside the rearend ( which I did, I took a propane torch and just carefully melted the plastic till I could pull it out.) Just take your time. When your ready to install the new one lube it up good. Be sure it's in all the way. That's it. Good luck.

Mine is a Gen II (`95). Right in the Service manual it states to disconnect the Negative side of the battery (5 seconds) then reconnect. I haven't had a problem since. Hope nobody's buying parts unnecessarily...good luck.

Probably not - this is a well known problem on the gen 3.
