This question isn't really important but I would like to get a serious answer asap. Is it necessary to have tubing between the air filter and the 'hat' on my truck? 1998 5.2 R/C. I have a 3" intake with a K&N cylindrical filter. The filter fits on the side of the hat where the tubing would go. Is this ok? Or am I missing something?

nothing wrong with it. it's not the best for performance but it is better for mileage. for performance you'd want it located closer to the front where it could draw in cooler air than under the hood.

Thank you. That is what I had, a 'semi' cold air system, but i didnt like it. It was pretty much home-made. The filter fits wonderfully over the end of the like 1" x 3" hat tube. I gave it a try. I fired my engine, and i have dual cat-back with no mufflers, and when i pulled the throttle cable, i heard the sucking noise over the exhaust. Excellent sounding!
