hey, i have a 1996 dakota sport. 3.9 Liter 5 speed and when i start it, it revs up to 2000 rpm instantly, i can just hear the bearings floating. i cant seem to figure out why im having this problem, ive replaced all sensors and just about everything else on this truck from a previous problem i had, any suggestions? runs fine after it warms up.

Coolant temperature sensor would be my first suspect, followed by the MAP sensor, then the air intake temp sensor, and finally the Idle Air Control motor. You need a scan tool to read the values coming to the computer for this one. Just because the sensor is working doesn't mean the wiring to the 'puter is good too. A few ohms extra resistance on a coolant temp sensor will run a richer fuel map, which brings up the RPM's.

In these cases (and I haAAAate to say it); Dealer. Even just for the diagnosis & you fix it yourself, it's worth the money.
