Many people on this site seem to be having all kinds of trouble with their Dakotas. I wonder if some of you might be victims of unneeded repairs by dishonest shops. I have owned 4 Dodge trucks over the years and have put about 453,000 miles on these trucks. I've never had an engine or transmission go out.I've always done my own maintenance and I've not always gone by the book with lube jobs and oil changes.I must be lucky because I don't seem to have the problems that everyone else has.Here's my repair lists-
97 5.2 4X4 Dakota 66k miles
65k-Left lower balljoint-never greased-didn't see fitting on lower control arm.
45k-oxygen sensor
99 5.9 Ram 53k miles
No Repairs
86 5.2 Power Ram100 4x4, sold at165k miles
125k front axile u-joints
150k tie rods,steering arm, balljoints,exhaust
155k rear axile bearing- tried to haul 2700lbs
Replaced starter and alternator at over 100k
78 360 Power Wagon 4X4,sold at 170k miles
135k axile u-joints,muffler-tail pipe, radiator
Replaced starter and altenator at over 100k
I did replace belts, brake pads,hoses,spark plugs,and tires as needed.
I also have had excellent luck with my 69 Dart convertable and 67 Belvedere, they have 185k each.
My Dakota and ram have been the best mopars I've owned yet!

LOVE MY 97 DAK...... 172K and still kicking. Almost all original parts except left front balljoints, front brake rotors/pads and PS Hose.
