Subject: Safari bar/ Front license plate

Message:
Could anyone give me some advice on how to relocate my front license plate on an 02 Dakota after having installed a safari bar. According to the directions it calls for mounting the licesne plate without the holder using the bottom two holes in the plate to the top holes that the plate holder mounts to. In my case if I do that the plate does not sit perfectly straing up and down due to the design of the lower valance. Any one have any suggestions. Thanks for the help

Don't have or want front license plates here in AZ.

I'm glad. It's hard enough getting through those photo radars!

I have one,,don't have time to elaborate, but I just put two screws into the valence itself and hung the lic. plate right over the bottom bar. Pretty easy,,no bracket or anything.

I just marked and drilled the safari bar then mounted the holder to the bar. It looked pretty good until I got in an accident and the safari bar took out my radiator. So now I have a draw-tite front hitch and a license plate holder that slides into the hitch. It looks good and hides the 2" box.

guys, thanks for all the ideas. I ended up taking a trip to my local home depot and found some clamps that worked out great looks great on the bar..Here is what I used. Go to the electrical section and go to where they have the conduit piping. Then go find a 1.5 inche #4 conduit hanging clamp. You'll need 2 of them.. The look like a letter C with a whole in the middle to secure the plate to and two tabs that have a bolt running though it to secure it to the bar. I glued on some rubber strips i cut from a new bicycle intertube, then painted them black to match the safari bar. Put the plate on using the bottom holes in the plate and run a half inch bolt with nut through each clamp. I actuall used a clear plastic plate holder to make the plate stiffer to resist the force from the wind when driving on the highways. Anyhow, get the plate on the clamps then stretch out the clamps as wide as you can spread them apart and slide over the bottom bar of the safari bar. Then take a pair of vice grips to compress the clamp in order to get the bolt and nut on the clamp. Align it up and tighten it down. It came out very nice, looks like it belongs there, didnt require modifying the painted suface of the lower valace and doenst interfere with the air flow.. Hope this helps anyone looking for an idea how to mount the front plate. If anyone has any more questions drop me a email and I'll expand on it more.

I turned my license bracket upside down. I attached the bottom of the license bracket to the original top screw holes in the valance. The top of the license bracket was attached to my lower grill inserts (compliments of Home Depot). It worked for me!

NEVER FORGET!
