Subject: Rear Differential Fluid Level

Message:
What should be the fluid level in the 9.25"(12 bolt) rear differential? The 4.9 pints I filled it with is right up to the hole. The owner's manual says it should be 5/8" below the hole. A technician at one of my local dealers said to fill it to the hole. I'm confused.

I just fill it to the point where it starts to dribble out then put the cap back on. the tech is right.

It never hurts to overfill most differentials a little. Up to the fill hole will not hurt a thing on Dodge differentials.
