Dealer has 1999 R/T and said it was a "buy-back" model. Excuse for buy-back was tow rating mistake. ANYBODY know what he was talking about?

I think Dodge published the wrong tow rating capabilities on the R/T's at one time. I know there is a guy that had a yellow one and he has a website on Dakota Webring. He gives a description of what happened on his website. If i find it ill post it here.

I took advantage of the buy back program on my 99 RT CC in November of 2k. The problem was that Dodge sent out an amendment to the owners manual that the towing capacity for RT's was being derated from over 6k to just 2k pounds. Hold the horses I said. Why? I heard rumors that the engine would burn a valve, the carbon fiber driveshaft would snap, the suspension was lowered and was dangerous, the truck would overheat, tires weren't rated for towing and blah blah blah. I parked the 99 next to my dad's 94 and my tires were rated at higher loads, the truck sat the same height and I had hooked up to a 7k pound trailer without a problem.......except that it overheated......alot....even in traffic with no trailer!!!! there was a huge design change with the radiator on the 2k's with the 5.9 and I guess others and my 2k does not overheat at all...I live in TX. At the time, DC was offering to buy the trucks back for all $ invested including payments, tax, accessories and licensing fees. A true customer service marvel and was hassle free. Other options were to assistin in getting into a new Dodge, and $500 in accessories. Alot of guys used this to buy headers. I had my truck for 9 months and put 11k miles on it. I took it to the dealer, gave him the keys and went home with a 97 mustang cobra and $4k in my pocket. Ironically, I got rid of the cobra because it overheated badly here in Texas and traded it in on a new 2k QC 4x4 with the 5.9. Pretty good luck overall and actually made $2k.

I bought my R/T used from a dealer that had two R/Ts that were buy-backs. I paid $18,400 for a Yellow 99 with 13,000 miles. They had a new 2001 R/T on the lot, sticker $27,000. This was a
no-brainer to me. I looked about 6 months for a used R/T. ART

Is there a web site i can check to see if my truck was a buy back. I just got it about a month ago. It's a 99 RC R/T. The dealer never said anything about it beeing a buy back vehicle. If it turns out to be a buy back vehicle is there some form of legal action i can take against the dealer for not telling me? Thanks for any help

My 2001 QC 4X4 was a buyback. By law the dealer has to disclose buyback information at the time of sale. I would say to check carfax for that info but I ran a carfax report on my turck before I made the deal and there was no record of a buyback on file. My buyback was because of rough idle, and engine miss. All probs. were fixed before I bought it and it runs great!

I guess what happens is when Chrysler buys a vehicle back it is then sold at auction so dealers can purchase it from Chrysler and sell it on their lot.

I have a list of dealer requirements when selling a reacquired vehicle and a list of punishments if the dealer doesn't comply.

If anyone is interested please email me.
