I have a 2001 dakota sport quad cab 4x2. 98,000 miles. I have had my rear diff fluid changed religously. as of late once I have been driving for a while and the rear diff fluid is hot .... when I proceed to pull out from a complete stop or turn right or left from a complete stop I am getting a grinding noise. It lasts momentarily but then goes away once it increase in speed. I hear it only when I pull out from a complete stop and after the fluid has gotten hot. My mechanic removed the rear cover and showed me that all of the gears appear to be fine but there is alot of play in the pins and retainers. He said I need to replace the rear housing. does this sound right.

I recently took my 2005 Jeep Liberty with 48,000 miles in for a brake job in which they changed the rear brakes along with new rotors and calibers. About 2 hrs after the work was done and I was driving on the freeway there was a whilrling noise and a burning smell. Apparently the differential cap came off and all the fluid came out. I took it to another shop (same company)and they fixed that problem, but now there is a new noise and they told me a pinion needs to be replaced and they need to take it all apart to see if anything else is damaged. Does this sound normal or does it sound like someone is at fault from the first place I took it to?
