Subject: Front wheel bearing repack question...
IP: Logged

Message:
At what mileage should you have the wheel bearings repacked on a 4X4 full time? I have a 2000 CC 4.7 full time 4whl drive, no towing, all highway and the dealer keeps sending me the reminders to have the bearings repacked on the front. I have 27,000 miles, no brake problems at all. I will probably have the brakes done in about another 8,000 miles, can the bearings in these trucks wait until the brake job because they usually are repacked at this time anyway?? Or do they need to be repacked another time BETWEEN brake jobs? Thanks.

What? Nobody in here knows anything about wheel bearings or is it just a stupid question that nobody wants to answer? Tell me like it is, I can handle it. :-)

If your dealer can figure out how to pack SEALED wheel bearings (you have 4x4 right)then let me know his phone number.
I have some ocean propery in Utah he may be interested in.
2 WD, yes, you pack, 4x4 you DONT pack.

Well good for you for pointing out the obvious, in either case, they do not need to be repacked.

The only time you ever talk to a dealer, is when $h!t really starts to hit the fan. All that the Dodge dealers around here try to do is soak you for your hard earned cash. Become good buddies with the guy who owns the auto shop.... hes got friends that can get you whatever you need, and help you with everything.... and hell, if you bring him and his buddies a couple of cases of animal beer (schmidt), they'll work on your truck for hours... and they know what the hell they are doing. Dealers..... Maintenance lights..... all just a plot to turn a 150 dollar do-it-yourself brake job, into a 650 dollar scam.... Spend it on a supercharger, and some other nifty toys.

Some bean counter at D/C decided that grease fittings were far too expensive to install in new vehicles. So the "lubricated for life" myth was born. Unfortunately, "life" means the life of the standard warranty. If you don't have an extended warranty, you're screwed. Get used to paying for prematurely worn out parts.

You don't have to buy new hubs. It's a pretty easy job. I just replaced my wheel bearings, costed me about $80 cdn at partsource to do both Left and Right front wheel bearings.

No repack is possible. My 99 is on the rack now.
$170 each. We had the hub in a 2000 press no go.
I am rebuilding the front end for the second time.
82,000 miles on a 99 R/T Ext cab.
If you are aware you will get the message on the
bearings before you score the axel.

Five Star dealer ratings have nothing to do with how they treat customers or the quality of their service departments. It is a rating for much many cars they sell and nothing more.

Problem removing bearing hub on 2002 4x4 quadcab
IP: Logged

Message:
I am having major problems removing the hub assemably. The spindle spline is free from using a gear puller and can be moved in or out. The hub seems to be seized on the back side. I have used tons of liquid wrench type products and pounded the hell out of it without success. I was told by someone how easy it was to do.....not for me. Does anybody have any ideas before I get stuck taken back to the dealer for a doiken? thanks for any help
