I want to know who here thinks i got a deal. Last year i bought a 94 club cab with 140000 miles on it for only 3700 dollars. i checked retail and its like 5500 dollars plus the only thing it doesn't have are power windows and locks. which doesn't really matter. Even right now i could sell it for more than i paid for it. The price was with nearly 2000 dollars worth of repairs and cleaning done to it.

sounds like a great deal to me....i just got my dakota at a pretty good deal too:
1999 Dakota Sport regular cab 3.9L 5-speed "intense blue" with only 30,000miles. looks in almost brand new condition...some minor scratches that i touched up already & everything else is great.
I paid $7,000

I just purchased a 1991 Dakota 2 wheel drive, 8 foot bed, 5-speed, 3.9 V-6 with 113,000 miles for $2,000. The body is in pretty good shape, needed to add new belts, new radiator, and new master cylinder. A/C need recharged or something, even if I don't get it re-charged I think I got a deal. If its a decent truck I'll drive it till it drops so I'm not worried about resale value.

Hey, I got one of those '91 Daks like you got, with the long bed, 3.9 V6 and 5 spd. stick. It has 160,000 miles, and the white paint has long since peeled off the hood. I spray a coat of white on the gray patches where the paint peels off once every few years when I wash the thing. The body has no dents, it has new tires and brake job < 6 months ago, and it still runs great. I could probably keep driving it until the wheels turn square. Now I got a new 2003 Dakota, but I kept the old one, thinking I'd do better to sell it outright rather than trade it in. How much you think I could get for this beast as is? Or after dumping more than it's trade in value to fix it up (paint it, tune it up, new, belts, hoses, spark plug wires, etc.)? Actually, I'm thinking of "donating" it to my teenage nephew and let him pour his earnings from cutting grass into fixing it up.

Your nephew would probablly appreciate it more if he bought it for something. I bought my Dad's '78 F-100 in 1986 when I was in high school, it was hit and totaled in Feb. of this year. Insurance co gave me $2,100 (I took good care of it)for it so I bought my Dakota (only want one car payment, not two). No dents or rust in my Dakota but I fixed and replaced all of the things mentioned in my first post. I have no idea what sort of history this vehicle had but the front brakes were new, and tires maybe 1/3 wore out. I'm in the St. Louis area where emissions inspections are required, if the vehicle fails you have to fix it or spend up to $450 trying to get it to pass so this was a negotiable deal in my purchase. The guy originally wanted $1,500 but I wanted it to pass the safety and emissions test first so he guaranteed it for $2,000. Safety was not a problem, but he had to add a new catalytic converter, smog pump, and plug wires to get it to pass. The only thing that kinda concerns me is the oil pressure gauge drops to the bottom or a little below the end of the normal range ( \_____/ ) at idle when its warmed up. Where did you gauge read after its warmed up at idle? Anyway, I would ask between $1,000 and $1,500 for it, at least, my paint is all there but as mentioned above my AC doesn't work yet and I had to fix a few things. Sorry for the long message.

mine is a '91 club cab SE v6 auto. 80,000 miles
no dents at all. after the paint job, kbb puts it
at $6200. you know how much i bought it for? $1500

You bet you got a deal. I hope your tranny hangs tough, I am fearful of ever buying a Chrysler automatic, thats why I went for the 5 speed. Enjoy that truck!!

yeah, tranny is slippin a bit, but added some fluid to fix the 2-3 and 3-4 slip. 1-2 still does, so im changin that speed sensor on monday. And i agree, i will NEVER buy another chrysler car with an auto. But it has AC! haha

Hey, everyone on here seems to complain about the automatics, well, maybe if you changed the fluid and filter regularly and didn't race the damn thing all the time, the transmission might last more than 100000 miles. How you drive a truck has a lot to do with how long it will last. If you are constantly racing other people, i would be surprised if it lasted that long. they aren't meant to be raced every day. I mean every truck i have driven has over 200000 miles before it needs rebuilding. Also, shifting the od button off at 75 miles an hour doesn't help it none neither.

The way I was always told vehicle trade-ins worked is:
Actual Cash Value (NADA/Black Book/Etc.), minus reconditioning/cleaning costs, minus lot pack fee (lot space isn't free) = dealer cost.
so
ACV = $2700
Lot Pack = $300
Recond. Cost = $500
-------------------
Dealer allows you $1900 trade in dollars
They will then mark up the vehicle from actual value to "market" value which may be around $6500 when the vehicle is put out on the lot. Considering the lot pack fee adds on every month, after a certain point, new or used, the dealer is losing money for every day that vehicle sits there.

Then, PROFIT!!!
