Message: Hey, whats the BEST of the BEST 10" speaker that would fit in a thunderform box for a '01 CC? I dont know how deep the mounting is, or the square feet of air space. I've been lookin at the Infinity Pefect 10s but, i dunno if it'll fit or not. So, what do you people run.

Message: You really need to find out how much air you have to work with in that box. An expensive sub not speced to work with that amount of air will sound much worse, than an inexpensive sub that is designed for that amount of air. Car Audio is not all about expensive equipment. Installation and using properly speced components plays a much bigger part.

Message: I got the skinny!!! Box has a volume of 1.8 cubic feet. Now just divide that by 2. Comes out to .9 cubic feet. Now find the best subwoofer within your budget that meets that specification.
My boys tell me that the box isn't very deep. So you need to pay close attention to the depth of your new subs.
My other suggestion is...If you know you're going to use the MTX box, buy it. This way you can take it to your car audio retailer and have them load different models of subs into it so you can hear what they sound like. It will be easy for them to hook up to their sound board, and take about ten minutes to load a pair.
Later, GOOD LUCK!!!

Message: Sweet, thanks for the info. I actually already have the box loaded with the MTX Thunderform speakers and (wussy) amp. But im itchin for a little bit more. What do you guys think of the JL W6? Good? Bad? Ugly? And what amp would you guys recomend, i've always just looked towards MTX for amps, but then again, i am a sterio newbie. Thanks again.

Message: W6's will not fit. I put W0's in mine and had to do a little fiberglass work to make them fit. I've heard of some guys doubling up the speaker pad(between the speaker and the box)to allow a deeper speaker to fit. Also know a guy who cut rings out of particle board and used those as spacers between the speaker and the box, used longer mounting screws. He claims there is still enough room for the speaker to jump w/o hitting the seat. Just some idea's.

Message: Okay, i did some digging..
MTX Speakers (Thunder 6000's the ones that they will ship the box) mounting depth is 5.125
JL audio 10W3 is 5.8125
JL Audio 10W1 is 4.375 < Definate Fit!
JL Audio 10W0 is 5.375
------------------^ all of these speakers have the correct volume capacity (match .9ft3)
JL Audio 10W6 is 4.875 < WOULD fit.
However Sealed enclosure range is 0.40-0.80 cu.ft. Too much room left over. .1cuft isnt much, but it might effect it...
------------------^ This 10 will have too much space in the box...
IMO, look at the 10W1 or 0 if you dont mind making a lift ring as abcinv suggested.

Message: To much room in an enclosure is not all together bad. It will allow your subs to play lower with the same amount of power. The only real concern would be high volume, then the subs could be push out of there excursion limits. But if you are using a good subwoofer then you shouldn't have a problem.
My only conern with the JL Audio w6s is the wiring 6ohm + 6ohm. You will have to play at 3ohms mono or 6ohms mono. Make sure your amp can handle the 3ohm load if you go that way.

Message: I was pokin around JL's site, and i found some wiring diagrams. They showed 2 W6s wired to 1.5 ohm. I was thinking of finding a 1 ohm stable amp and pushing those with it. Just an idea.
About the cu. ft. -
I didnt think there would be to big of a problem with to much space, being that it isnt that much anyways. But is this a big deal? It would seem hard to find a sub to match custom boxes with odd dimentions. Or maybe i just dont know anything. :) Which is probably the case. Hehehe.

Message: As I said earlier, to much space is much easier to correct then not enough. Install the subs and you will probably notice that there are no drawbacks to your setup. If the subs start to flop around at high volume then place a small sealed sandbag inside the enclosure to take up space, but you probably won't have to do this.
I would be careful with a 1 ohm load. That 1 ohm load would suck up a tremendous amount of amperage (alternator killer) and make the amp run hot. You may want to consider wiring them to 3 ohm and get an amp that runs down to 2 ohm, like a class D amp.

With speakers wired in parallel:
Two 4 Ohm speakers will present a 2 Ohm load.
Two 8 Ohm speakers will present a 4 Ohm load.
thats the 10W1 speaker.
Lots of options...
R/TRuck, great tip on sandbags, hadnt heard that before... why sealed? to keep it clean? or is an acoustic thing?

Message: GlenC: There is more to the Thunderform than meets the depth chart. The depth of the subs is only one space concern. The other is the magnet diameter. The bottom of the T-form is NOT flat! The bottom starts fairly shallow on the front and back, then slopes down to a flat bottom towards the center. Large-magnet subs like JL and Infinity Perfects have shallow-enough depth, but have magnets that are far too wide. I tried a set of Audiomobile subs (120oz magnets) and the depth was fine but they wouldn't fit because of the magnet diameter. I threw in my old Fosgate 'till I get some Image Dynamics IDQ10's. They have a smaller magnet so they fit and they have superb sound quality. They are anywhere from $100 to $170 online depending on where you go.
You might also take Audio God's advice and buy the box empty and take it to a shop and try to fit some subs. I tried the wood ring/longer screws thing and it sucked. I needed so much lift that I would have run into the seat bottom so I had to lift the seat with more wood spacers... pain in the a$$.
I'd try the IDQ10's because I know they fit and sound good.
Good Luck...

Message: My box is a commin... I'm gonna try and toss a pair of Orion XTR3 DVC's in there. Also I hear Polyfill will fool the subs into thinking there is more cubic feet of box space ?!?
I'm also running 3 Orion HCCA amps. 1 for each sub and 1 for the front infinities.
Also got the new JVC voice activated deck lx-50 I think it is. Pretty bad a$s, mounted the wired remote next to the window switches, and the mic above the rearview !
Just my .02 cents and yeah I want my change :)

Message: Let me throw some change at ya.
The polyfill will not only trick the subs into thinking there is more air space it will also give the subs a more tight sound. The polyfill slows the air waves down and make the bass sound a little more accurate. Not to mention help stamp out any vibrations that occur inside the enclosure.
